BACP (Snr Accred) In Person/Telephone Counsellor

About me

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor, with 25 years of experience helping people with relationship difficulties (couples) and family issues, low self esteem and low self-confidence, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, abuse and anger issues.

I am trained in various approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy and Dream Therapy, and I offer one-to-one counselling, incorporating compassionate common sense with well grounded theoretical understanding.

I work with individuals and do short term work with couples and young people. I have a special interest in relationships, relationship difficulties and young people's problems.

I work within a Humanistic, person-centred approach. This means you are the centre of the work and I am there by your side to explore whatever is uppermost for you. However, I also incorporate other theoretical models whenever appropriate.

I strongly believe that the client is the expert on themselves and simply needs the right environment and a relationship of trust to develop to the best of their ability. I see the client as an individual and not as a 'case' to be fitted to a particular theory.

I am happy to undertake both short term counselling and longer open-ended therapy. Please call or  email me to arrange a session.

Training, qualifications & experience

BACP Senior Accredited.

I spent five years as a Youth Counsellor for the YMCA and Citizens Advice Bureau before setting up private practice from home in 1992.

  • I constantly update my knowledge and expertise with courses, seminars and lectures
  • I have regular Supervision from a registered Supervisor
  • I attend personal therapy
  • I have a client contract that outlines my terms
  • I abide by a strict code of confidentiality

I always work within a Person-centred approach. This means the client is the centre of the work and I am there, by their side to explore whatever is uppermost for them. I will work with a mixture of common sense and theoretical models whenever appropriate. These would include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (working to change a core belief that is causing certain behaviours)
  • Solution Focused Therapy (concentrating on a particular problem
    for short term work)
  • Gestalt (based on a holistic view of the person, use of body language)
  • Transactional Analysis (belief in the basic OK-ness of the person, and their place in their environment)
  • Dream Therapy (dreams can be a fast track to understanding a person's deepest fears)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
