Russell Joseph UKCP (reg), MBACP
I am a qualified psychotherapist/counsellor and have been working in this field with individuals and couples since 2000. I also have experience of providing supervision to others practising in this field, since 2008. I am based at my practice in Welling, near Bexleyheath. In addition, I see clients from the following areas : Bexley, Blackheath, Lewisham, Woolwich, Plumstead, Falconwood, Eltham, Sidcup, Shooters Hill, South East London and Kent.
I believe that it is important to create a respectful relationship with my clients. This means that we will work together in a confidential, non-judgemental space that enables you to express whatever is troubling you. From my experience this way of working at your own pace, can help you to face your issues which can lead to positive changes in your life.
Fundamental to my practice is my view of people that is characterised by an accepting, respectful attitude. This helps to create a safe, secure space that allows free expression of personal issues, or problems.
My work includes :
a) An exploration of how current problems may be connected to past relationships and events.
b) Exploring issues around anxiety. Helping clients to address the cause of their anxiety can improve their quality of life and their potential for change. Kevin Spacey's statement in American Beauty : " it's a great thing when you realise you still have the ability to surprise yourself ", clarifies an engagement with life where change is integral to health.
I am a recognised provider of counselling/psychotherapy services for a number of Private Health Insurance companies, including : Aviva Health, Exeter Family Friendly, Simply Health, Cigna, Pru Health and WPA . Since 2007, I have been able to help many people who hold such a policy. I am also a BUPA recognised counsellor and psychotherapist.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
In my experience as a psychotherapist/counsellor in private practice, I have worked with a wide range of people with a broad range of problems that include : depression, anxiety, stress, self harm, personality disorders and concerns about work/life balance.
I have worked with many people who have had a wide range of issues that impair their ability to function effectively in the workplace. This work is focused on finding specific solutions to defined problems.
I have provided counselling for people training to be counsellors/psychotherapists. The focus for this work has been their personal issues regarding their life, their course and its academic and placement requirements. I have also supervised counselling students for many years.
On a sliding scale from £40 to £80 for each 50 minutes to an hour session.
Possible reductions for those on a low income, such as therapy trainees.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss my availability.
I practice psychotherapy/counselling in the mornings, afternoons and evenings from Monday to Friday.
The first session is an opportunity for you to discuss your current problems and for me to clarify my therapeutic approach, in terms of how I would work with you.
My practice is a five minutes' walk from Welling B.R. and is on the cusp of S.E.London, being near to Woolwich, Blackheath, Lewisham, Eltham and Shooters Hill.
