Lona Stafford MA. Dip.Counselling MBACP (accred)
I have been working as a BACP accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor and an integrative supervisor for over 20 years. My approach is Humanistic which means that I work in a confidential and non-judgmental way believing that everyone is unique and has the right to respect and autonomy.
Are you feeling anxious, depressed, angry or fearful? It may be a time in your life when you need to make a difficult decision or understand an issue. Your sense of self worth and esteem may be low. Perhaps you are suffering from grief and have experienced a bereavement. Counselling can help and working issues out together may give you an opportunity to explore your feelings in a completely confidential way.
I try to understand the client's world from their point of view and if appropriate use other appraoches to counselling such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Transactional Analysis My training in EMDR has enabled me to work very effectively with phobia, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse. I have also trained in EFT which is a useful hypnotherapy technique in dealing with panic attacks and general anxiety. I pass on to my clients my training in Mindfulness which may also be very helpful in dealing with stress and worry.
Do you find it difficult to make the first contact? if so I will do my best to make this as easy as possible for you. Perhaps it would be helpful to exchange emails or have a talk on the phone before we meet. It is often difficult to reach out and seek help when support is necessary but if you can then progress and healing is possible. New clients may find it helpful to meet me for half and hour to see if they could work comfortably with me. I do not charge for this meeting.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
