About me

You may call me Penelope or Penny. I am 52, married with two adult children.

At times life will burden each one of us with pressures or difficulties. We can find that we are so engrossed in the issue that we don't recognise the most obvious course of action.

I believe that you do have the answer it's just you don't know it, so we will work together so you will find it.

Friends and family can sometimes help, but often we will tell different parts to different people, this will give you the opportunity to say all of it in one space.

My therapy room is in my home, it is downstairs with a picture window over looking the enclosed back garden.

'I honestly don't know where I'd be if I hadn't started coming to you. I've come such a long way in ways I never thought I could which is in no small part down to you. Your listening, calmness, and thoughts quickly made me feel very comfortable (a rare thing for me) and meant I could really be myself and more honest than I've ever been. Thank you.'  (A.W.)

'Thank you so much for the help you have given me over the past 5 weeks. I feel so much stronger and able to cope with any possible situation in the future, and without your help I feel I would be in a totally different place for a lot longer than I am now. Again thank you.'  (S.)

'Myself and my partner had a series of counselling sessions with Penny spanning nearly six months. We have both had individual counselling before but never as a couple and I found the idea daunting and exposing.
We had a lot of confusion in our lives bought on by circumstances and dubious decisions and were quite lost and taking it out on each other.                          O
ver the weeks Penny was able to help us unravel the confusion, in a safe space she was able to slowly help us unpick the real issues and look at our life and relationships with perspective. Some of the results were shocking and quite literally life changing.                                                                              I personally was amazed at how much of myself I could explore and dare to face. With warmth and empathy but always professional Penny was there for me and my partner at the most difficult time of our relationship.I cannot thank her enough for the safe space we created together and the strength I now feel to carry on.'  (J.N)

'Although I was unsure about discussing my problems and dilemmas with complete stranger, I can say it was one of the best things I have done. I am now evaluating my life...I am no longer scared of change...'

'It's like getting a birds eye view on whats happening and puts everything into perspective.  When you are 'in' the situation you can't see or understand why things are happening the way they are around you.'    (J.K.)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My training is rooted in the person-centred approach, however I enjoy learning from supervisees with their own theoretical and personal philosophies.  I believe you already have an abundance of knowledge and experience whether as a supervisor, counsellor or trainee so I see my way of working is more collaborative to support you as you develop personally and professionally.  I find the more I know, the less I know, the more experienced I become the more I have to learn.
