About me

Hello and welcome. I am so sorry that the practice is full at the moment, and I am not able to take on any more ongoing work. Occasionally there is availability for a one-off session. There is a waiting list for ongoing therapy.

The search for the right therapist can be quite daunting, and it can be helpful to contact a few different ones before you decide. I welcome enquiries, so do contact me if you have any questions, and I will try to be of help. The best way to contact me is by email - we can then arrange a telephone call at a time that suits you.

I work in Ramsgate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The practice is currently fully booked, but if you send me an email to let me know the best times for you to attend a session, I will do my best to find a time as soon as possible. Please note that there is sometimes availability for a one-off, extended session, which can be of help in itself. When you contact me, please let me know the best days and times for you to attend sessions.

I work part time for a national organisation and part time from a large office in my house in Ramsgate.

I work according to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy code of Ethics and Practice. You can read more about this at www.bacp.co.uk.

I hold full professional indemnity insurance and work according to the BACP guidelines for ethical practice. I also have an Enhanced DBS Certificate. My aim is to provide a safe space to talk in confidence about any issue.

I enjoy working with people of all ages, cultures and walks of life. My experience includes working as a counsellor and psychotherapist for national organisations including the NHS. As well as being a registered practitioner, I have also been awarded accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 20 years.

I use a combination of theories to inform my work, and in consultation with you, devise a way of working which is best suited to your needs. It is difficult to say exactly how we would work together until I meet you, but I am able to offer a range of experience and training that includes on the one hand, short term, solution focused therapy, often using CBT, and on the other hand, longer term work, often using psychodynamic and relational theories. I enjoy my work and have over 20 years experience as a psychological counsellor and psychotherapist.

I think it is essential to take a holistic view of each individual, which includes the mind, the body and the spirit. The extent of my training and experience enables me to formulate a way of working that I hope will be the most effective for you, depending on your life experiences, personality and presenting problem.

I believe very strongly that counselling and psychotherapy can be beneficial. I have also been through my own journey in therapy.

There are many factors that influence how many sessions will be needed. Some people find that a few sessions make a great difference. For other people, it is helpful to continue for several months and sometimes years. The important thing is to keep talking about this as the therapy progresses.

If you would like to explore this further, why not arrange a first session, or assessment. This first appointment gives you the opportunity to talk in confidence and to decide whether you feel you would like to work with me. There is no obligation to continue after this unless you decide that you would like to do so.

I offer a full assessment at our first meeting. This is extended to at least 75 minutes to give you the time to talk things through and the opportunity to decide if you would like to continue for further sessions. During the session, I will listen carefully to you and will be thinking about the most effective ways of working with you. Following the assessment I will continue to think about the work and often spend a further hour writing assessment notes, which are kept in a secure place. Sometimes I also take the work to a confidential supervision session with a professional colleague. I aim to work carefully and adhere to ethical guidelines at all times.

If you decide that you would like to continue, sessions of therapy usually take place at the same time each week. For this reason it is helpful to think about the best time for you to attend. I usually work on a once-weekly basis, but twice weekly sessions can be helpful for some people.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UK Council for Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
