About me

YOU ARE WElCOME

I can welcome you to work on-line using a secure video service prepared for counsellors and medical practitioners. This is a safe, supportive and ethical counselling service for a wide variety of concerns and difficulties. We can and do work with complex problems, difficult childhood experiences and and challenging mental health issues. You are welcome to give me a call to let me know what you are needing from coiunselling and get a feel as to whether we are a good fit. Or make a booking on my website by selecting the BOOK NOW button on the top right corner.

Most people feel a little anxious when beginning counselling and it is important to build some feelings of safety before walking into more difficult territory. Working with an on-line counsellor is no different. Building of relationship happens quite naturally as the conversation is close and focused around the worries and anxieties that you have brought. There is extensive evidence that this way of working functions well for clients and counsellors. In these Covid times it is a safe way forwards. You have the choice of working via telephone, video or textual conversation, or we can exchange weekly e-mails

COUNSELLING IS NEARBY

Counselling therapy on-line is always nearby you. I appreciate being able to talk to clients from all parts of the world. Although most of my work in counselling is in Bristol, United Kingdom, I am trained and experienced in offering telehealth services, by telephone, video and chat-line and e-mail service. Counselling this way means that even if you are short of time, having to look after children, disabled or prevented in any way from accessing on-line counselling I will be pleased to be able to talk with you. Now that we are all experiencing the restrictions of Covid 19 it is proving a very real way of moving forwards in difficult circumstances.

While I have an open door to all kinds of difficulties and directions, I do have a particular interest and experience working with complex trauma and difficulties stemming from childhood neglect, I have found it useful to have lived through many changes and difficulties and reared a family that has experienced the trauma of enormous changes. I have been fortunate to meet with a wide variety of spiritual practices and appreciate the contribution that Buddhist practices have made in counselling. I welcome the opportunity to work long term with survivors of many different kinds of traumatic events.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have training in CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy, But over the years these have become integrated so that we can focus on what you need in any particular session and for however long you would like to work with me. I wish to provide a specialised treatment structure which gives you what you need at this particular time.

CBT is highly structured and has a focus on the thoughts you have and how these can be changed. It helps you to monitor improvement in your situation as you begin to feel better.

Narrative Therapy, an opportunity to review and restructure the way you see your life. If you would like more information about this open-ended and sensitive way of working then you can look on-line at the website:www.dulwichcentre.com.au

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a powerful way to get to where you want to get to are useful ways in which you might like to work. There is a good article called Embracing Your Demons: an Overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy by Dr Russ Harris at www.actmindfully.com.au
