About me

Why I offer counselling

I believe authentic relationships where people feel safe and experience being heard and valued, have the power to transform lives. I also believe the most effective counselling relationship is one where you feel able to explore your thoughts and emotions free from judgement.

To talk through what it might look like if we worked together, book a free Exploration Call, here.

A bit about me

My own experience has been one where the support of a counsellor has helped me to make sense of life's challenges. This valuable input has also helped me to become more self-aware and recognise where I can make helpful changes.

I hold professional qualifications in Personal Performance Coaching, Person-Centred Counselling, Leadership and Management, and have gained a first degree honours in Applied Social Sciences from the University of Gloucestershire.

Also, as a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their code of ethics. This includes a commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and the input and support of a qualified supervisor.

Working with me

Working at your pace and to your agenda, I will assist you in making sense of problematic thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Where helpful, I will also introduce you to ideas and practical strategies that could empower you to address the issues you want to resolve.

Some of the issues I have worked with people to address include:

  • Addictive behaviour(s)
  • Anxiety
  • Confidence
  • Depression
  • Relationships
  • Stress

I offer face to face sessions from an office in close proximity to Gloucester town centre, and also provide sessions remotely via ZOOM, Google Meet or Skype.

Next steps

If you want to improve your wellbeing, explore an issue, or make sense of problematic emotions, thoughts or behaviours, get in touch with me for a chat about what working together might look like. I will aim to get back to you within 2 working days.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

TESTIMONIALS

. . .

"Nic created highly professional and focused sessions within which I could challenge my addiction. I found him non-judgmental, attentive, and calming.

He gave me some great suggestions on how to think about things that remain a valuable resource for me to call upon."

Amy

. . .

“Nic has been a genuine lifesaver for me. When I initially started my sessions with him, I was in one of the worst spots I had ever been in, mentally.

However, through the weekly sessions, he helped me change my outlook on things and was incredibly accepting of my quirks.”

Adam

. . .

“Nic was non-judgmental and quickly understood the difficulties I was facing. He provided thought provoking ideas and challenged me to think deeply about what I wanted.

This helped me to make sustainable changes, both personally and professionally, to achieve a much more contented life.

I enjoyed working with Nic and have taken a huge amount away from the sessions.”

Dan

. . .

“Nic helped me to focus and deal with the issues that needed attention—the things I had been disregarding to cope with my pain in recent years.

Although the experience was hard, touching on very sensitive topics, Nic challenged me gently to really consider much better coping and management techniques – which are proving to be really successful.

Many thanks.”
