About me

I believe that with every successful therapy a life enhancing difference is made not only to the client and their immediate family, but also to the next generation.

All too often we allow ourselves to struggle on as we negotiate the journey of life and making the decision to start therapy is not always an easy one.  If you're searching for a warm, empathic, intuitive therapist who is passionate about helping you to bring about positive change in your life, you are looking in the right place.

I have over twenty seven years' experience of working successfully with individuals and couples, offering a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space to talk through whatever has brought you to this point in your life – whether they are unresolved issues, current difficulties or hopes for the future.

I offer support for a variety of life issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, past trauma, depression, feeling stuck, relationship issues, bereavement support and unhelpful patterns. Or perhaps you are looking to increase your self-awareness, find more balance in your life, nurture your creative potential and increase your level of happiness.

Together we will work through the issues that are troubling you, helping to make sense of your emotions and difficulties and help you to find a better way of living.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling with extensive knowledge and insight into the field of psychology.  As a fully qualified, insured and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their code of ethics and practice.

Since I began my counselling career in 1997 I have undertaken a wide range of training including:

Anger Management, Anxiety and Panic, Bereavement Issues, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Couple Counselling, Depression, Dream Work (Jungian), Family Therapy, Group Work, LGBTQ Awareness, Nutritional Therapy, Relationship Issues, Stress Management, Sexuality, Understanding Suicide and Work-Related Stress.

Additionally, I hold a longstanding interest in the work and ideas of Carl Jung, known as Jungian Psychology, which I have studied in depth for the past 17 years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I work with couples of all ages; married or living together, separating or divorcing; with or without children to consider. Couples counselling can also benefit other types of couples such as siblings, friends or colleagues.  Therapy is often short term with just a few sessions needed to turn relationships around or at least help to separate in a more amicable way.

Issues regarding all kinds of family break ups including divorce, separation and estrangement within families, alongside dealing with difficult people in the workplace.  For many years I have offered counselling and support to those struggling with the impact of bereavement, significant loss and terminal illness.

My approach is LGBTQ inclusive.  I actively affirm diversity in my practice and value the opportunity to support those who may want to work through issues relating to their identity, sexuality or gender.  I hold great trust in the language of our dreams, particularly when understood through the work of psychologist Carl Jung, and will work closely with a person's dreams where this is relevant or desirable.
