About me

Life can be very tough at times and it can be difficult to know where to turn. You may be experiencing low mood or anxiety or changes in your behaviour in reaction to issues in your life.

You maybe struggling with low self-esteem which results in feelings of worthlessness and people pleasing behaviours. Counselling can help to increase your self knowledge and help you to place value on yourself.

My aim as your counsellor is to provide you with a safe, caring and confidential space where you would have time to make sense of any difficulties or distress that you may be experiencing.

I offer a supportive environment where you can develop greater self-awareness and with this awareness can make any necessary changes to your life.  I believe that you are the expert in your life and I will always respect that.

I am a qualified counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.  As a member of the BACP I am committed to continual personal and professional development and abide by their code of ethics for good practice.

One of the reasons I trained as a counsellor was because I have had my own therapy and know from my own personal experience how helpful it can be.

As you are reading this you have taken the first step.   If you would like further information please call me and leave a message on my confidential voicemail or email me at info@philomenacounselling.co.uk and I will get back to you asap.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a special interest in working with self-esteem issues. I feel that low self-esteem or self worth can be at the root of many other problems and issues in a person life.

Low self-esteem/worth can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety and other mental health issues and behaviour problems.

Having good self-esteem is important in having good mental health. This is why I feel that working on our self-esteem is very important and can lead to a happier more contented life.
