I see individuals, for long and short-term goal-oriented therapy, and run "A Return to Intimacy" workshop, exploring how we experience relationship. I am a UKCP registered Integrative and Transpersonal Counsellor and Psychotherapist working in private practice.
Most of us communicate now in short bursts via broadband: a text, or e-mail, a peek at other ‘friend’s’ lives on Facebook, who we now rarely see. We leave our messages on answerphones, that are sifted through by people who are so busy and stressed, a simple call to a landline is a luxury, calling on the run, using mobiles that ‘lose connection’ so regularly we often don’t bother returning the call.
Individual counselling and psychotherapy can help us at times when we feel isolated, overwhelmed, or experiencing a major life change, loss or separation, or an issue we cannot resolve, and we need someone who is trained to listen and not judge us, and for whom confidentiality is part of their contract. Talking through our problems in this safe space allows us to deal with the crisis, to heal past trauma and let go of ways of being that no longer serve us. We can reconnect with our dreams, and find a sense of purpose and meaning that may be missing in our lives, helping remove the blocks preventing us from fulfilling our potential.
In my Return to Intimacy workshops, we have an opportunity to witness and explore the way we relate, and the blocks we encounter in attempting to make a deeper connection.
In the course of the two-day workshop, participants spontaneously share insights and qualities seen in one another that is so spot on, so unexpected, and so far from the experience of being seen by partners, friends, colleagues and family. This offers a new template for moving forward with increased awareness and the potential for real change.
"For one human being to love another human being, that is perhaps the most difficult task that has been entrusted to us, the ultimate task, the final test and proof, the work for which all other work is merely preparation" Rainer Maria Rilke
Training, qualifications & experience
I did my diploma in counselling and psychotherapy at the Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy Education in Warwick Crescent, London W2. I adhere to the UK Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP) code of ethics with whom I am registered and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I am fully insured and my work is supervised, and I continue to attend workshops and seminars as part of my professional development. I have recently completed three trainings with Pia Mellody of the Meadows Centre Arizona working with codependence and healing early wounds, in Inner Child and Feeling and Shame Reduction workshops.
My background is in the Arts, with an honours diploma in photography, an MA in film, and a background in writing poetry and short stories. In my writing and photography, I was always intrigued by relationship, the desire and experience of being seen by others, and the blocks to intimacy and connection, which I explore in my workshops. I had two late in life children with the help of fertility treatment.
I see private clients, and also work with Fresh Start Psychotherapy, a low-cost scheme, and have also been a voluntary counsellor in the prison system. I am a member of the London Psychotherapy Network, whose community of experienced therapists contribute interesting articles about psychotherapy and counselling, as well as answering frequently asked questions on various psychological therapies.
