Jane Teverson NCS Reg. Accred.
To a greater or lesser extent I believe that everyone has blocks to their happiness and potential, and these blocks can cause discomfort in everyday life. In a safe and confidential space counselling can to help identify and begin the work of resolving them, allowing for greater autonomy and choice.
Counselling offers you the opportunity to tell your side of the story. Your life as you've expereinced it, a story that no one else can tell. This is your time and in a safe confidential space I share the journey with you, towards a freer more positive way of being in the world. It is a way to reclaim the good in you, so allowing it to manifest in your life and relationships.
Most of what causes discomfort, has its root in our past, most notably infancy and childhood, and as Jeremy Naydler, (author of The Future of The Ancient World) has said, 'The past ... has a tendency to haunt the present, and it is perhaps not so easy to shake it off as we might think... It is the "unconscious" of the present, and our neglect of it becomes a neglect of an aspect of our own wholeness ... In order to live fully in the present ... we need to reclaim the past as part of who we are, as belonging intimately to our own larger identity.'
So we need to respect the past for what it can teach us, while remembering that the present is where we live and it is here that we create our future. And in order to live in a present and future that we want, we need to become aware of and work on the issues that are getting in our way.
I see counselling as one way to heal the wounds that other people have inflicted, because of their own wounding. Counselling is also one way that this cycle can be broken and healed, so that wounds don't get passed on to the next generation. And if they have already been passed on, it is a way to start the healing process for everyone. It is arguably the most important work anyone will ever do; for themselves, for those they love, and for everyone their life touches.
My training is predominantly in Psychodynamic counselling, though my roots are in Person-Centred counselling. Also, a long standing interest in Humanistic and Transpersonal Psychology and Mindfulness, contributes to a holistic framework for clients to explore these issues. I work from home and offer a safe confidential space where clients can come to a better understanding and relationship with themselves and others.
My counselling experience extends over twenty years and includes training student counsellors.
