About me

Clinical Experience:
I have been working privately in Twickenham offering individual counselling & psychotherapy since qualifying as a psychoanalytical psychotherapist in 1982. I qualified further in 1998 as a group analyst and ran a psychotherapy group in the Twickenham Green area for 21 years. I have also run staff groups in the NHS, reflective practitioner student groups in university settings & support groups for charitable organisations. Since 1990 I have been supervising counsellors & psychotherapists. I also work with students who are in training to become counsellors.

I work with young adults, adults and older adults.

Before my first training I worked with adults & children with learning difficulties. I then worked in half- way houses with ex-psychiatric patients & later worked for a branch of MIND setting up & running a low-cost psychotherapy scheme.

What to expect during therapy:
I offer an initial exploratory session to establish whether we both feel we can benefically work  together. Individual work can be short or open-ended depending on what we decide mutually. The work is collaborative. We will be initially focusing upon what led you to seek help. Often relationships are distorted by experiences that have occurred in the past. The therapy will provide a setting in which to understand & identify these distortions so that you can more fully engage in the present moment.

I work mainly face to face but am also able to do therapy via Zoom if need be.

Further information

Change is often something about which we have mixed feelings. We want it and we fear it. For this reason I endeavour to respond sensitively to the person I am sitting with rather than applying a formulaic approach to everyone.
