About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor working in Aldwick, near Bognor Regis and Chichester areas. I have over 10 years’ experience working as a counsellor and I see individuals and couples who are struggling with relationships with self and others, bereavement, depression, anger, stress, anxiety, confidence/self-esteem, addiction, gender, phobias, personal development and conflict at work.

My journey to becoming a counsellor started from an interest in personal development many years ago together with a curiosity and fascination of what it is to be human. I studied Psychology as a mature student and I was drawn to Humanistic Psychology, which holds the belief that humans, as individuals, are unique beings who have an innate desire and motivation to grow in the areas of love, fulfilment, self-worth and autonomy. This truly resonated for me in my life and fostered a deeply held wish that someday I might become a counsellor and support others to make positive changes in their lives. It took many years and changing work situations and circumstances for me to have the opportunity to study to be a counsellor and by this time I felt ready.

Embarking on counselling training I soon realised it included having my own counselling. At the time this felt rather daunting and I was anxious about what might come up for me in counselling sessions. Would the counsellor believe me or judge me negatively? However, as soon as I met the counsellor, I knew I was in the right place at the right time with the right person. The counselling process, underpinned by the counsellor’s empathy and acceptance, allowed me over time to share difficulties I was experiencing and work through unresolved issues from my past. This proved invaluable. Personal counselling gave me greater self-awareness and support, and now as things arise in my life, I feel able to work through them on my own and share more openly with others when appropriate.

As a counsellor I work humanistically and specialise in Person-Centred Counselling, which puts the client(s) at the centre of the counselling relationship. I work at the client(s) pace and I trust that over time they will come to share and explore how they are feeling and what difficulties they are experiencing.

The personal qualities I bring to my work are sensitivity, openness and warmth, as well as respect for others and their individual values and beliefs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
