D. Lesley Purvis
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with much training and experience both with individuals and couples. I realise how important and difficult it is to choose and approach the right counsellor; and how daunting it can be to take that first step. Therefore, your first appointment does not commit you to a full course of counselling sessions. Our first meeting will be an assessment of your difficulties, an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have; and will hopefully, help you decide if counselling is the way forward for you. I endeavour to offer an appointment within 5 working days of initial contact. I provide a confidential space in a comfortable, friendly and non judgmental environment in my consulting room in North Shields where together, we can safely explore the issues that are currently troubling you.
I am a Humanistic Counsellor qualified in the Person Centred approach to counselling.
I also practice various techniques from the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy approach to counselling and will use the 'tools' from this modality if I believe this will benefit you.
Also, because I have a certificate in couple counselling, I am able to help you with relationship problems, whether you come as a couple, or alone.
COVID -19 Because of the current difficulties with Coronavirus, I am temporarily offering telephone counselling only.
So, if you are experiencing:
Stress at home or at work
Low self esteem
Problems with painful childhood memories/experiences
Post Traumatic Stress
Obsessive Complusive Disorder
DID (Dissociation identity disorder)
Or something else that may be causing concern or distress and you think I can help (see full list of areas covered below), please contact me by email or telephone on the numbers provided above.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
