About me

Partner and Director of Grounded Learning Ltd., Delivering Counselling Training across Scotland.

  • Developing Courses for delivery online and face to face from Certificate to Advanced Level.
  • Offering consultancy to organisations who are developing a counselling service.
  • Delivering training counselling and group work programmes for organisations.
  • Holding a supervision and client case load (Face to Face, Online and Telephone)

Whether you are a client, student or qualified practitioner looking for support, I believe that you are a unique individual with your own particular set of biological, psychological and social threads which make you who you are.

Instead of using the same approach with each individual, my work begins as we co-construct a therapeutic alliance and way of working which draws from both our strengths.

You will never find me holding space as the expert in the room.  You will find me holding space and working to support you as the expert, developing your understanding and ability to shift or improve your life.  I will offer a balance of support and challenge to ensure I am more useful than agreeable.

I will ask you to step towards me as I step towards you, engaged in the work, with our sleeves rolled up, to make sense of the things that work well and the things that need untangled to give you the opportunity to make decisions and take steps based on your own values, needs, hopes and dreams.

I will ask you for honesty and feedback to help me support you.  I will do my best to avoid jargon and complicated language and I will seek and implement your preferences where possible.  I will try to ensure I avoid the temptation to building your bridges for you.  You are the bridge builder.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
