About me
Sometimes we find ourselves facing problems and difficulties in our lives that we cannot deal with on our own. We cannot talk to someone inside our usual circle of friends and family, and we need someone to talk to who will listen, understand and help us to see a way forward.
I offer you a safe place for you to talk through your problems or worries and confidentiality is assured at all times. Counselling can help you when you are going through a difficult time, such as experiencing some anxiety or depression. It could also be a life change such as relationship breakdown, trauma, illness or loss. At other times we are just aware that we have felt low or angry about something for a very long time and now might be the time to start making some positive changes for the future.
As your counsellor I can help you to face your difficulties and explore how you may regain a greater sense of control in your life. You may come to understand your feelings and beliefs better and to allow the possibility of change from the repeating patterns of the past.
I am a counsellor and registered psychotherapist with 27 years experience of working with adults.
I offer both short and long term counselling and have an emphasis on working within the relationship, developing trust and growing in honest and real communication. This increases your ability to deal with relationships and situations in all the different areas of your life.
My approach is integrative and my training includes psychodynamic and humanisitic counselling and also psychotherapy using the arts if you would like to include this approach in your counselling.
Training, qualifications & experience
MA Integrative Arts Psychotherapy
BA Psychology
Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling
Diploma in Counselling Supervision
Rewind Therapy Practitioner
I am a registered psychotherapist with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and I abide by both of their codes of ethics and good practice.
I have trained in an integrative model which draws from many of the counselling models such as psychodynamic therapy, transactional analysis, gestalt and arts psychotherapy. This enables me to work with you in a flexible way that suits your particular background. I use a person centred approach, treating every client as a unique individual and tailoring my work style to their specific needs and preferences.
I also offer Rewind Therapy for the treatment of trauma.
My psychotherapy training includes the use of creativity and the arts, such as drawing, painting and sandtray. While I can offer this to you in your counselling there is no pressure on you in this, as you may prefer to just talk things through with me.
I receive monthly supervision and regularly attend other professional development days.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
