About me

I am an experienced Psychosexual Therapist and Relationship Counsellor COSRT SNR Accredited .I work privately, having worked for a number of years for Relate. I have also worked in allied public services for over 30 years much of it dealing with relationship and social issues. In more recent years I have concentrated on couples parents and families , and more specifically with those with sexual problems.

I offer private and confidential Counselling and Psychosexual Therapy to both couples and individuals experiencing a wide range of relationship and sexual difficulties, the focus being on improving communication and harmony. Relationship counselling offers help to those experiencing communication breakdown both emotionally and physically, often brought about by life stresses including infidelity, upheavals including loss of job, moving away from family , arrival of babies and step parenting etc. The process offers an opportunity to look at unhelpful patterns of behaviour and unresolved issues from the past that may be impacting on day to day coping mechanisms.

However mediation and conciliation services are also available to those wishing to separate. Understanding why a relationship has broken down can be very helpful in avoiding repeating patterns in the future.

Sex therapy offers help to those experiencing any of the following:- Loss of Desire,Erectile Dysfunction,Premature Ejaculation,Vaginismus and Painful Intercourse and other equally distressing conditions.  I also work with those experiencing gender issues.Referrals are taken from individuals and the medical profession.

I offer an initial assessment to talk through the problem and to decide the best way forward. Sometimes just being able to talk about an embarrassing condition can provide the confidence to work on improving situation. Therapy offers a programme of Sensate Focus exercises practised in the privacy of your own home with your partner or alone depending on the difficulty. Therapy is not a quick fix it takes time commitment and effort but statistically is proven to be effective in a high percentage of cases. For more detailed information please visit my website www.ericksontherapeuticsolutions.co.uk.

I also work with those who have suffered sex abuse and trauma. Therapy provides the opportunity to share deep seated concerns, anxieties and secrets and helps to put the experiences into perspective giving the individual a greater sense of acceptance and understanding which impacts positively on self esteem.

My practice is based in the privacy of my home, with off road parking. I am based In the village of Pymore just outside Bridport which is easy to find. Most of my clients come from West Dorset and Somerset , including Bridport, Dorchester Sherborne Shaftesbury Yeovil and many of the surrounding villages. However at the present time   (September 2020) all consultations are taking place through online video link.

My approach is eclectic with a leaning towards Behaviourism, Solution Focussed and Brief Therapy techniques. All these are designed to help clients look at behaviour and find new and more rewarding ways of interacting . I look to offer clients a very sensitive supportive approach aiming for self determination and opportunity for personal growth.

COSRT
College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT)

COSRT is the UK’s leading membership organisation for therapists specialising in sexual and relationship issues.

All members must abide by their Code of Ethics and the performance of accredited members is regularly monitored.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
