I have enjoyed long and worthwhile counselling career both as a private and NHS practitioner. I see individuals and couples, and many of my clients have felt confident enough about my skills to recommend me to friends and family.
In these extraordinary times I believe it maybe helpful for many people to manage isolation with some mental health advice and strategies. It may not warrrant a complete course of therapy but perhaps only one or two sessions. I will discuss this and agree a treatment plan at the outset.
Anxiety is normal for all of us now as we face the pandemic together . The fabric of our lives has changed in the short and medium term. Together we need to work on adaptation and acceptance.
People come to therapy with a range of issues and problems and all of them want to feel better or live their lives in a more meaningful way. I do not present myself as an expert who has all the answers. By working together we hope to find the right way for you to move forward and live you life in a better, richer way.
In my NHS work I worked with a lot of people suffering with depression and anxiety.
Selecting a counsellor that can meet both your needs can be difficult and it is essential that both of you feel comfortable here before we can proceed. So it is important to attend the first meeting together and clearly outline what it is that you need and how you would like your relationship to change. Remember it is not possible to go back to "how thing were" but rather to look for a way towards a "new and healthier relationship".
I have completed a training in Interpersonal therapy and also in Couples Therapy for Depression (Exeter Model) at Exeter University and in both of these therapies there are excellent tools for improving communications and exploring ways of making changes when relationships seem to be failing. However it is important to do the work before the deterioration in the relationship becomes insurmountable. So if both of you are wanting to put in the work to improve or save your relationship then counselling has a good chance of working.

Where I work
Due to the Covid 19 crisis I am working online or by phone but in normal circumstances people come hear to work with me in beautiful and tranquil surroundings. I am situated between Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton.The space I offer is completely private and confidential. We usually meet weekly for several weeks and then less frequently in order to follow up and ensure that the work we have done together is making a difference and has taken root.

I currently charge £45 but will offer some sessions at £25 until the end of April.
I do offer some sessions late in the day / early evening to add flexibility for those who work.
I will find the right approach to suit your needs. I have written many notes which I offer in handout format or pamphlets to support the work we do together. My booklet on Anger Management is widely used. My practice is in a lovely serene setting offering total privacy and ample parking.
If you feel comfortable working with me after our initial meeting then generally therapy can be completed in 6 - 10 appointments.
I can help you to make a decision about the type of therapy most suitable to your needs and explain the NICE guidelines on therapy recommendations. Today many people are keen that the therapy they are having is evidence based like CBT or Interpersonal Therapy or EMDR.
