About me

I am a qualified  and accredited counsellor and supervisor running a private practice in Hitchin. I work with couples and individuals and have extensive experience working with children and young people. I also offer relationship counselling, family therapy and mediation.

I believe that we all have inside us, the answers that we seek. And in discovering for yourself what you need, I believe the change is easier and longer lasting.

Starting some counselling can be for many reasons...it could be that you are currently struggling with life, due to major emotional upheaval or you could be looking to understand yourself better, to make steps towards a different future.

Whatever it is that brings you to counselling, I believe that the person-centred way of working allows the time and space for YOU to decide what it is you need.

Person-centred counselling is a ‘non-directive’ approach which provides you with an opportunity to explore your feelings and be emphatically understood without judgement in a safe relationship with your Counsellor. This ‘therapeutic’ environment is likely to help you discover your inner wisdom and make personal changes towards a more satisfying way of living and being.
My aim is to be alongside you as you discover the answers hidden inside. My hopes would be that together we can find the way to resolve the difficulties that you are facing, whatever they may be.

I work with adults, young people and children. I offer short-term or open-ended work.

I also offer relationship counselling (couples, partnerships, colleagues, family, friends and siblings...), including family therapy.

I have worked as a schools counsellor for many years and so have extensive experience of counselling children and young people.

I am am also co-founder of OPALS, an organisation running CPD for counsellors and various other workshops and courses offering support and learning to those that work with or live with children and young people.

I have also worked in the Arts world in Artist management for many years, giving me  experience in understanding the emotional needs of performers.

I am an accredited member of the BACP and work within their code of ethics.

I carry professional liability insurance and have been Enhanced DBS checked

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
