How can I help?
I strongly hold the belief that the basic aim of therapy is to get you to a place where you feel comfortable and are moving forward without therapy, and as such will stay with you through to outcomes and mutually agreed goals. For many years I have lost count of the number of individuals I have supported back to well-being and achieved positive outcomes.
I don't have the answers, and I will not give you advice. But based on my training and experience, I will get a really good sense of what's going on for you and help you to move forward in a safe, non-judgemental, confidential and professional manner.
My approach
I am able to offer you a choice of many interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
CBT
The benefits of using CBT are many, its methods are direct, it is challenging, but the important aspect is such that together with my help you will learn new skills to confront your issues and not just to lock them away, for them to re-appear at a later date. Please be aware that CBT often involves reading and homework tasks, such as practising and completing skills between sessions, which are normally 50 minutes in duration.
Person-centred or humanistic therapy
One major difference between humanistic counsellors and other therapists is that they refer to those in therapy as 'clients', not 'patients'. This is because they see the therapist and client as equal partners rather than as an expert treating a patient.
Unlike other therapies the client is responsible for improving his or her life, not the therapist. This is a deliberate change from both psychoanalysis and behavioural therapies where the patient is diagnosed and treated by a doctor. Instead, the client consciously and rationally decides for themselves what is wrong and what should be done about it. The therapist is more of a friend or counsellor who listens and encourages on an equal level.

I have personal life experience of these barriers, along with experience and qualifications to provide an empathic non-judgmental education to overcome these barriers.
