A Cry for Help

I lack Motivation and self-actualisation

Not wanting to get out of bed

Oh what’s in my Head?

Sometimes thinking I’m better off dead

Negative thoughts of

Ought to do this

I should have done that

I’m so bad

Predicting

Catastrophising

Criticising myself

Generalising, comparing to others

I always feel sad

I don’t know why

I often cry

In silence or in my room

Thoughts of myself

There’s plenty of time,

To reflect, ponder and wander

On what should have been, wanting to be seen, to be held, cared for, loved

I really ought to scream

This is such a bad dream

Activity – shrug

I try to go out

But my thought places doubt

I walk down a street and the people I meet

What are they thinking?

What’s wrong with me?

What are they looking at?

I don’t fit in

It feels like I’m in the wrong skin

I’m shaking, I’m nervous, my heart beating fast, my legs are in pain

It’s all such a drain

My evidence is strong, it’s me, and I am the one who is wrong

So I go home, it’s my safe place

Rest on the couch

Have another sleep, I’m so tired

I don’t even want to eat

Soon the day will be ended

Tomorrow I may be mended

What should I do? What ought I to do?

The Answer to the questions you seek;

Ask for HELP

TALK TO OTHERS, LOVED ONES, FRIENDS

PERHAPS YOU CAN’T DO THIS ON YOUR OWN

Possibly you are in such a muddle it’s all such a struggle

You don’t have to be alone

SEEK HELP, IT’S AT THE END OF THE PHONE, OR PRESS A COMPUTER KEY

HOW HARD CAN THAT BE

TO CONNECT YOU TO ME

Here to listen

Impartial

Understanding

Caring

Empathic

Non-Judgemental

I don’t tell you what to do, but to offer help to improve

Manage your mood

Manage your thoughts

Manage your thinking

To change your behaviour

In the end, you’ll be your own saviour

I HAVE BEEN THERE MYSELF

Why not let me help you?

Together we can face your issues - I will listen to what you have to say, not judge, criticise, or tell you what you should do, but together look at new ways and possibilities, and if you are happy, teach you new skills and give you the tools to deal with your problems more effectively.

How can I help?

I strongly hold the belief that the basic aim of therapy is to get you to a place where you feel comfortable and are moving forward without therapy, and as such will stay with you through to outcomes and mutually agreed goals. For many years I have lost count of the number of individuals I have supported back to well-being and achieved positive outcomes.

I don't have the answers, and I will not give you advice. But based on my training and experience, I will get a really good sense of what's going on for you and help you to move forward in a safe, non-judgemental, confidential and professional manner.

My approach

I am able to offer you a choice of many interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

CBT

The benefits of using CBT are many, its methods are direct, it is challenging, but the important aspect is such that together with my help you will learn new skills to confront your issues and not just to lock them away, for them to re-appear at a later date. Please be aware that CBT often involves reading and homework tasks, such as practising and completing skills between sessions, which are normally 50 minutes in duration.

Person-centred or humanistic therapy

One major difference between humanistic counsellors and other therapists is that they refer to those in therapy as 'clients', not 'patients'. This is because they see the therapist and client as equal partners rather than as an expert treating a patient.

Unlike other therapies the client is responsible for improving his or her life, not the therapist. This is a deliberate change from both psychoanalysis and behavioural therapies where the patient is diagnosed and treated by a doctor. Instead, the client consciously and rationally decides for themselves what is wrong and what should be done about it. The therapist is more of a friend or counsellor who listens and encourages on an equal level.

Chronic pain and low mood/depression

Experienced at offering 1-1 and group delivery of education in regards to chronic pain and associated mental health issues to provide the individual with skills to manage their pain and mental health barriers more effectively. I have personal life experience of these barriers, along with experience and qualifications to provide an empathic non-judgmental education to overcome these barriers.

EAP and job seekers

Experienced in helping individuals and group delivery in employment assistance to overcome barriers to employment - CV writing, job search activity, confidence building, self-esteem, interview skills and practice, and support when in early stages of employment. Bio-psychosocial assessment of needs and individual plans for wellbeing.
