About me

It is daunting to consider sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings with a stranger.  I want to help you to understand what you want rather than what you feel you must do or what others expect from you.  I hear your story from your perspective and can help you to understand where your challenges, frustrations and anxieties lie.  Very often people find this helpful as they begin to understand themselves and their circumstances a little better.  i would like to help you to talk about your situation and how it makes you feel so that you can find your own solutions.  Counselling is an investment in yourself and your future.

I am a registered and accredited psychotherapist and offer face to face therapy for adults in the Wokingham area. I find that integrating different theories gives more flexibility in the way we work together, perhaps identifying issues from the past which cause you distress, but also understanding how to move forward in your life in the knowledge that these events have taken place. I am always open to new approaches and ideas and regularly update my practice.

I offer a safe private space where you can share in confidence your worries and concerns. Having someone who will really listen to what you are saying in a non-judgemental way will help you to work through and understand the challenges in your life, so that you can find a way forward. This may mean embarking on a series of changes in your work and/or personal situation or may mean that you would like support as you come to terms with the way things are.

My training as a therapist has built on many years in the NHS working clinically, in education and in a managerial role. More recently I have volunteered in an infant and junior school in west London. I am aware of the enormous pressure people who work in the public sector experience on a daily basis from all aspects of their job.

I am experienced at working with loss, bereavement, fertility and infertility experiences, childlessness, depression, anxiety and low self esteem. I also have broad experience of working with people coming to terms with chronic or terminal illness as the patient and as a friend or relative.

I am a member of the British Infertility Counselling Association and have completed a number for courses with them relating to infertility and loss and how it affects the lives of both men and women who struggle to, or are unable to conceive.

Training, qualifications & experience

Susan Reid PgDip MBACP (Accred) MBICA

After qualifying at St George's Hospital London I had a long and varied career as a nurse clinically and in education where I developed an interest in pastoral support which led me to re-train as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

Training and Qualifications

I found the pastoral support of students interesting and rewarding and so started with a counselling skills course. I wanted to learn more, and so I continued with further studies at Roehampton University where I qualified as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

I have undertaken additional training in CBT and am able to incorporate some elements of CBT into my practice; I have learnt how to work through play and art therapy at the charity Place2Be, and attended a number of study days at the the British Infertility Counselling Associon.  I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists.

My work has been with students, professionals and people from all walks of life who have had a life experience they want to talk about. I have volunteered in agencies which support adults and young people with their life challenges, depression, anxiety, relationships and study (organisation, goal setting, barriers and blocks). For five terms I worked with infant school children using play and art therapy.

Code of Ethics

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their Code of Ethics.
