About me

Hi, I'm Susan, an experienced Person-centred Counsellor, thank you for taking a look at my profile. I work with a lot of people who need someone to listen as they feel anxious or depressed, or have become overloaded with life’s problems and stresses. Although I am a well qualified and experienced Counsellor, I am just an ordinary person who values other people.

I became a Counsellor because I experienced its value as a client when I was a mature student at the Lancashire Poly (Uclan) in 1989. I was having difficulties with juggling deadlines, managing the commitments and responsibilities of being a parent, and enduring severe PMT symptoms, and I found it really helpful being able to have support from the student counselling service there.

Valuing this experience so highly, I decided to follow my psychology degree with an Advanced Diploma in Counselling at Wigan College, and undertook my placement at UCLAN, in the hope that I could offer people the type of heartfelt support I had received myself.

Once qualified I set up and ran the first Student Counselling Service of a Further Education College, and gained extensive experience of counselling young people, mature students and staff members over the three years I was there. In private practice as a Counsellor since 1995, I have counselled many, many people with all kinds of issues over this time.

I have a history of working on counsellor training courses across the north west since 1993, and have been a counselling supervisor since 2002, supervising both qualified and trainee counsellors, and also as professional consultant to other supervisors.

Please get in touch if you think I may be able to help, or if you want any further information. Thanks.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
