As a UKCP registered Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist, I see people with a wide range of problems and concerns. Whatever their difficulties, though, what these people often have in common is that they have reached some sort of crossroads or crisis in their lives which has led them to consider whether counselling or psychotherapy might help.
I have worked in this field since the 1980's, in various contexts. Initially I worked in a university counselling service and also established a private counselling practice. Subsequent to this, I worked for quite a number of years in the NHS, firstly in a psychology department, and then in a psychotherapy service. 12 years ago I moved into private practice full-time.
From my experience in these different contexts, I am aware of the extent to which current, recent or past experiences can impact on people's lives. It is often after a period of struggling with feelings, difficulties or memories related to these experiences that a person may arrive at the crossroads or crisis I mentioned earlier.
Should you decide that psychotherapy might be helpful to you, the first step would be to arrange an appointment for assessment. This initial meeting allows you to discuss your particular situation with me in detail which, in turn, enables me to clarify whether I think you may benefit from the process of psychotherapy. In addition, meeting face-to-face in this way gives us both the opportunity to get a sense of whether we could work together - this is an important factor in establishing a therapeutic relationship.
