About me

Outdoor Walk and Talk Therapy,  Eco-therapy & Deeper Nature Sessions

As a fully qualified and experienced integrative counsellor with over 15 years experience in mental health. I draw on my knowledge of psychodynamic talking therapy, attachment focused therapy, play therapy, relational therapy, nature based mindfulness, eco-psychology (nature based) and creative art for people of all ages.

I largely work somatically with a nature based model which supports you to ground in the natural world, using daily exercises, observations both external and internal, i.e sit spots, 4 direction orientation, nature connection mindfulness, body scans, visualisations, mirror walks etc. With some participants/clients we can introduce movement and dance or ceremony but this all depends on how the work evolves and what your personal interests are ?

Online or Telephone Sessions

During this time of uncertainty it is essential that we all care for our mental health and have access to the support we need.  This is why I will be offering telephone, or video sessions ( Zoom or WhatsApp) to those who wish to access my services. I will support you to make sure all your sessions are completely confidential wherever you are based.

I offer counselling & psychotherapy to support you through wide range of difficulties; Anxiety, OCD, Abuse, Depression, Loss & Bereavement, Separation & Divorce, Affairs & Betrayal, Issues around Adoption, Infertility, Addiction(s), PTSD, Childhood Trauma, ADHD, Asperger's, Sexual Abuse, Eco Grief, Work/Life stress, Long Term Illness, Dissociation, Bereavement, Sexual Identity...

Being able to talk to a non-judgemental counsellor/facilitator in a safe confidential environment either in a nature or online can be a very therapeutic experience, allowing difficulties to be unpacked, worked through and resolved.

Within my practice I believe strongly in the relationship that can be built between the client/participant, in relationship with the therapist and the natural environment as being the most important ingredients in the therapeutic relationship. If you decide that I am the right therapist/facilitator for you, we will work together with whatever you bring, with the understanding that we will not simply examine the problem/issue in isolation but as a part of your world, seeing it in the wider context of your life and history.

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to 14 years counselling in private practice, I also gained invaluable experience working as a Mental Health & Disability Support Worker with learning disabilities charities and mental health service providers throughout Suffolk and North Essex.
I am also an Approved Counsellor through Barnardo's Adoption Agency which is registered to provide Adoption placement and support services (Supp no.72763).

I have experience of working as a primary & secondary school counsellor in both the private and public sectors.

Until the beginning on 2020 I offered face to face therapy indoors and some online & telephone sessions but with the onset of Covid 19 I switched by psychotherapy practice to online and phone.

I have studied Regenerative Eco-psychology and during the pandemic begun to offer Integrated Walk & Talk Therapy and Eco-therapy in an area of woodland close to my practice.

I have DBS certificates from Link Barnardo's.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Eco-Grief

Many people are increasingly finding themselves more aware of a form of grief or anxiety related to worries about climate change and the state of the world’s environment.

Known as climate anxiety and ecological grief, or “eco-grief,” these strong feelings can have a negative impact on mental health, especially when current events such as a global pandemic, a natural or climate-change disaster occur.

WHAT IS ECOTHERAPY                                                                                      Ecotherapy can support individuals to overcome stress, anxiety and other mental health problems as well as personal issues like grief, trauma or major life changes. Those who want to enhance personal development and their unique relationship to nature can also benefit from ecotherapy.

The focus of ecotherapy is to support the participant to connect with the natural environment in a deeper and more meaningful way which helps them to feel safe and held by nature with a skilled practitioner who acts as listener and guide.

During an ecotherapy session people are supported in a respectful and nonjudgemental way. Confidentiality is central and crucial to this work and participants are never expected to discuss anything they do not feel ready or able to.

Exactly how the session will unfold will depend on the individual but it may include; talking in depth about situations, feelings and experiences; meditation exercises which help people connect to their environment and feel grounded; focusing on a particular tree, plant, rock, animal or piece of land to find meaning and connection in nature; making something creative using natural found materials.

Participants may also be encouraged to explore their environment to find meaning and mirroring from Nature. This supports greater insights into personal experiences, feelings or issues related to emotions, relationships or certain situations.

Sessions take place in carefully selected nature spaces, chosen for their beauty, peace and tranquility. These spaces may be unsuitable for those with certain health conditions or disabilities; if you feel this applies to you then please get in touch and we will do our best to seek alternative locations to suit individual needs.

Fees for ecotherapy are £65 for 75 minute sessions.
