About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/therapist working as a therapist for 28 years .

Life can be a struggle for all of us at times...big problems  ...small problems..  I am here to walk that journey with you ..

I see myself as a sort of  car mechanic as I have  gained  a lot of tools in my tool box to pass on to you   and to help you with your worries.

I am a genuine and warm person with an empathic, non-judgemental approach to my clients. My humorous down to earth nature is creative, solid and challenging when appropriate. I care very much about people's personal growth.

It is very important   you are with  the right  therapist for you...so please feel free to ring for an informal  chat  so you can ask me questions before committing  to an appointment.

I also work to the 60 min hour ..not 50 mins as most therapists do.

I work with people with all sorts of problems and from all walks of life. Issues people present include:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Abuse
  • Bereavement
  • Depression
  • Divorce
  • Stress
  • Unresolved trauma from childhood
  • Relationship problem
  • I am very experienced in dealing with Trauma. and PTSD

I do not work with couples or under 18 clients.

My Approach

My approach is integrative, therefore I look at the patient/client and assess which is the best way to work with this individual.

I am committed to supporting others through times of pain and transition. I feel passionate about my work and believe each person is capable of achieving their full potential.

I am a very interactive therapist who believes in psycho-education i.e. I believe in giving the person as much information regarding their issue as possible.

I may or may not be the right person for you but please feel free to ring for an informal chat.  There maybe times I have no appointments free  but this often changes . Making that first call often takes courage if you prefer send me an email. If I am not the right person for you I will do my very best to direct you to where would best suit you.

What should I expect from my first session?

The first appointment is an assessment and therefore slightly longer than the normal one hour session. This provides an opportunity to discuss what your goals in coming to counselling and and your current concerns. A short history will be taken and some practical details exchanged.

It is very important that we feel we can work together and that my particular way of working is appropriate. You may need time to think this through. There will be no pressure to make a commitment at this point.

I believe Counselling / Therapy is a joint journey between Therapist and Client. This can be hard work but offers great benefits and leads to peace of mind.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
