About me

I am a warm, respectful therapist and supervisor, offering individual &couples work, alongside organisational development. I have over twenty five years of work experience within the NHS including as specialist advisor to commissioners of NHS and non-statutory services.

I have served as Board Chair and Board Director for UKAHPP (Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners) an accrediting body for psychotherapists. I am a trained Cruse Bereavement Counsellor (National Bereavement Care Organisation www.cruse.org.uk) co-founder of the Thallo Practice an independent counselling service & part of Cancer Counselling London.

I believe that therapy will provide you with a safe and confidential place to discuss and explore your experiences and the support you are looking for. Therapy will support you to be who you are and to have the confidence to live life in more meaningful and engaged ways.

I offer regular reviews to look at how the work and therapeutic relationship is progressing. This on-going review of the work ensures that the issues you want to work on are being addressed. If you are considering therapy, either short or long term, individual, couples or organisations then please feel free to contact me for an initial consultation.I practice from The Thallo Practice EC1R 1UL, a short walk from Angel, Kings Cross, Islington, Chancery Lane, Barbican, Farringdon and Russell Square stations. There is also a very good bus service serving Roseberry Avenue No.s 17, 19, 38, 45, 46, 63, 341.

Individual therapy provides an environment in which you are supported to develop the skills necessary for managing your self and your relationships in new, satisfying and emotionally responsive ways.

Couples therapy provides an environment in which to explore relationship issues. These range from improving communication skills, increasing intimacy, addressing differences in sexual desire and contact, conflict resolution or a generalised feeling of being stuck or unsatisfied. When working with couples, I focus on the relationship, the dynamics and patterns of relating that feel at best unhelpful or unsatisfying and at worst destructive. Therapy can support a deepening of contact and the ending of destructive patterns of relating.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a graduate of the Spectrum Training Programme, a Centre for Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (www.spectrumtherapy.co.uk); an Associate member of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (www.ahpp.org.uk) ; a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk/) and an accredited member of UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy).  I work within an ethical framework as set out in the codes of practice of my professional body.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
