About me

I am a BACP Senior accredited psychotherapist and counsellor (1996) with 21 years experience (199 6), working in private practice. I work from home on the outskirts of Rugeley, bordering the Trent & Mersey Canal and overlooking fields on either side of the River Trent.

I am a qualified Family Counsellor (1998) and have a special interest in working with teenagers:

For them it is not just about the challenge of passing GCSEs, AS and A-Levels.Culturally, our children live in a different world than we did. The entertainment industry becomes more pervasive by the day. It portrayals of body image and the “ideal” life create unrealistic expectations for teenagers, disrupting their “normal identity development” and it can lead to depression, due to lack of self-confidence and believing they will never achieve what is expected from them.

I qualified as a Relationships and Couples Counsellor (2015) and work with couples as well as parent/ child, and with siblings.

You might decide to come to counselling with your partner or alone. Or you might have a combination of solo and couple sessions.

You desperately want to repair your relationship, both for your sake and, if you have children, for their sake also. We so often do not understand our partner’s point of view and rarely understand how our own actions contribute to conflicts.

If differs from individual counselling because the focus is on the “we” and not the “me” in the relationship, The couple begin to understand that they are both to participate by both making changes. Relationship counseling is a joint venture to better understand the relationship rather than an adversarial one.

I am a qualified Supervisor (2009), providing supervision for trainee counsellors as well as newly qualified and more experienced therapists, individually and groups (max. 4). My supervision has an Integrative approach. Trainee Counsellors are expected to attend for a minimum of 2 sessions of one hour a month or as specified by their training organisation.

As a former teacher and school governor, school counsellors are very welcome.

I am a Consultant Supervisor for supervisors as recommended in the new BACP Ethical Framework.

I have a Diploma in CBT and am recognised by BUPA as a provider of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
