About me

We all have problems at times when life can become difficult and it helps to be able to talk to another when things seem overwhelming or too hard to bear.

A service is provided to clients presenting with Depression, Stress, PTSD, Trauma (both complex and single event Trauma), Anxiety, Phobias and Panic Attacks but also Addictive Behaviour patterns (substance misuse; compulsive eating / binge eating disorder / OCD

GP Surgery experienced therapist, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), Person-Centred and Psychodynamic counselling approaches.  Help is sensitively given and change often comes about when there is a good 'therapeutic relationship' between counsellor and client.

For those presenting with Psychological Trauma or PTSD, particularly after multiple traumatic events, traumatic bereavement or where chronic pain results after a traumatic incident, I offer EMDR treatment sessions (in line with NICE Guidelines (2016) and recommendations for the treatment of PTSD).

I also work with Personality Disorders, Domestic Violence and Disordered Eating (including Anorexia, Obesity and Negative Body Image) within a confidential, safe and supportive environment.

Registered with professional bodies: BACP, BPS, and EMDRIA

My counselling Practice at the Maidstone Community Support Centre is within easy reach of Maidstone, Aylesford, Strood, Rochester, the Medway Towns, Rainham, and Gillingham with good access to public transport or car parking.

My Practice at the Kings Hill Centre is within reach of West Malling, East Malling, Tonbridge, Leybourne and Larkfield with very good parking facilities.

Please ring in confidence for further information or to arrange for a confidential consultation on 07706 430466.  I can also be contacted by email at christinebart@netscape.net

Psychological Trauma can occur after experiencing a single event or after multiple events, which can have long lasting effects which become overwhelming and affects your ability to function.

Examples of traumatic events include:

* Serious accidents, RTA (road traffic accident), collision

* Physical, emotional, sexual abuse

* Neglect, Deprivation

* Victim of Bullying or Stalking

* Natural or man made disasters

Psychological support in the form of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and/or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-TF) can be very effective in helping people with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), the name given to describe symptoms of distress following a traumatic event.
