About me

We all have problems at times when life can become difficult and it helps to be able to talk to another when things seem overwhelming or too hard to bear.

A service is provided to clients presenting with Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), PTSD, Depression, Stress, and Trauma (both complex and single event Trauma), Phobias and Panic Attacks but also Addictive Behaviour patterns (substance misuse; OCD;)

As an NHS experienced therapist, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (CBT), EMDR Therapy and Person-Centred/Integrative counselling approaches.  Help is sensitively given and change often comes about when there is a good 'therapeutic relationship' between counsellor and client.

For those presenting with Psychological Trauma or PTSD, particularly after multiple traumatic events, traumatic bereavement or where chronic pain results after a traumatic incident, I offer EMDR treatment sessions (in line with NICE Guidelines (2018) for the treatment of PTSD).

I also work with diagnosed Personality Disorders, within a confidential, safe and supportive environment.

  • Registered with professional bodies: BACP, BPS, and EMDRIA
    My Practice at the Kings Hill Centre (ME19) is within reach of Maidstone, West Malling, East Malling, Tonbridge, Leybourne and Larkfield with very good parking facilities.

    Please contact me in confidence for further information or to arrange for a confidential consultation at christine@kentandmedwaycounselling.co.uk or christinebart@netscape.net

What data do I keep and why do I need it?

1) Privacy Statement Form:

Name and age –   this is basic in formation that helps me get to know you

Address, email address, phone number -   I use this as a way of contacting you regarding your sessions.

I will mainly use the method you first contacted me on but if I cannot reach you, I will try a different method.

Next of Kin/ Doctor's details -   If I was worried that you were at risk then I may need to contact your next of kin or doctor. If I can, I will tell you I am going to do this.

Prescribed Medication – this information is kept until one month after treatment ends.

2) Session notes -   I keep very brief anonymous notes of our session, stored in a locked filing system.

3) Psychometric measures -  I use these to monitor progress over the course of treatment.  They are usually administered at the beginning and end sessions.  This data will be shredded after treatment ends.

Will I share your data and if I do, who will I share it with and for what purpose?

It is very unlikely that I will share your data. I may have to share data if my notes are subpoenaed by a court or if you or anyone you tell me about is at risk of harm.  I will not sell it on or use it for unethical reasons.

: Please contact me if you are experiencing symptoms of PTSD or distress following a Psychological Trauma.

Psychological Trauma can occur after experiencing a single event or after multiple events, which can have long lasting effects which become overwhelming and affects your ability to function.

Examples of traumatic events include:

* Serious accidents, RTA (road traffic accident), collision

* Loss and grief

* Physical, emotional, sexual abuse

* Neglect, Deprivation

* Victim of Bullying or Stalking

* Natural or man made disasters

* Being taken hostage

Psychological support in the form of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and/or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-TF) can be very effective in helping people with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), the name given to describe symptoms of distress following a traumatic event.

The NICE Guidelines recommend that "All PTSD sufferers should be offered a course of trauma-focused psychological treatment (either CBT-TF or EMDR) regardless of the time that has elapsed since the trauma" (NICE, 2018).

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
