Dr Anne Guy MBACP (Accred); UKCP Reg; MUPCA (Accred)
I offer face to face counselling and psychotherapy for adult individuals in Basingstoke, Hampshire. I aim to be non-judgmental and welcoming and it’s important to me to help create a warm relationship that will enable you to talk about whatever you need to.
The first meeting gives us an opportunity to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions you would like to. I will invite you to say something about what’s prompted you to seek counselling but understand that it’s not always possible to speak of what really matters straight away. If we then decide to meet regularly each session will last 50 minutes. I am happy to work in either a short term or open ended way.
There is no magic wand but I can help you explore how you feel, what that might mean and what, if anything, you might do next.
I work in an integrative way, which means that I am able to draw upon ideas from several schools of thought about how people come to be as they are. For more information about this see www.psychotherapyassociates.uk
I am experienced in working with a wide variety of issues such as losses like bereavement or redundancy, feeling depressed or anxious and low self-esteem amongst others. I am critical of the biomedical model of human distress and do not subscribe to systems of diagnosis or the use of terms like disorder as the evidence for such systems is weak.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have successfully completed
• a Professional Doctorate (PsychD) in Psychotherapy & Counselling at Roehampton University
• a Certificate in Couples Counselling
• Certificate in Counselling Skills
• BA Hons Sociology & Philosophy, Warwick University
I currently work with private clients.
In addition to previous lecturing I have also worked as a counsellor in several local GP practices and two local Counselling agencies. Prior to that I spent three and a half years working as a listening volunteer for Samaritans - a large UK charity offering emotional support over the telephone whilst working as a senior manager in operations management.
