Choosing a counsellor is a big step which can feel daunting. How do you select the therapist who will be right for you? For this reason I offer an initial session without commitment.
I am a professionally qualified and fully accredited (BACP) and registered (BACP; UKRCP) Counsellor / Psychotherapist working in private practice in Putney, Wandsworth SW15 (easily accessible from Roehampton; Fulham; Southfields; Wimbledon; Barnes; Richmond; Clapham and Kingston).
My consulting room is tranquil, light and airy, in a quiet house surrounded by trees and garden, in a small residential street.
How I Work
I work with adults on a one-to-one basis, both long and short-term. I offer day time, evening and some weekend appointments.
Empathy and compassion are the essence of the way I work and I will offer you a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, confidential space where you will feel heard, accepted, respected and valued. For many people this is a new experience which in itself allows for greater self-understanding.
My theoretical approach is Integrative, drawing on the Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) approaches within a relational working model which emphasises the Humanistic philosophy and embraces Person Centred core processes.
If you are new to counselling you may be confused by the different theoretical approaches and find it difficult to decide what would be right for you. Current research shows that more important than the theory is the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and me) and this is the cornerstone of my work.
Why choose Counselling?
Many of us experience difficulties in our lives. Each of us is different, but difficulties and problems might be related to: self-esteem; family issues; work problems; relationship isssues past and present; identity; bereavement and loss (of many kinds); health; disability; childhood; difficult choices; life transitions; ageing; sexuality; anger management and others too numerous to list here.
The feelings are as varied as the problems but may include: low self-esteem; depression; desperation; stress; anxiety; loneliness; sadness; hopelessness; helplessness; meaninglessness; isolation; confusion; anger; fear; regret; guilt. These feelings can often be very difficult to manage and can in some instances lead to feelings of suicide.
If you are experiencing difficulties and perhaps you feel there are unresolved issues from your past that you would like to understand better and/or you are wondering who you are and what you want from your life, therapy will allow you to explore these in confidence in a safe place with someone who will support you and who is outside the situation. This will help you to understand yourself and your problems better and to consider new approaches for dealing with these so that your life becomes more manageable and also more satisfying.
I offer a first session without commitment. This is a chance to explore why counselling may be helpful for you and to assess whether we feel we are right for each other.
If we decide to work together we would enter into a contract which would be either fixed-term or open-ended. This would be mutually agreed according to what would best meet your needs and goals and would be reviewed by us at intervals.
Our work would be collaborative; a journey we would travel together, enabling you to reach a new understanding of both your difficulties and yourself. Ultimately I hope that you would find your life not only more manageable but also more enriching.
