Most people come to therapy because they are wanting greater levels of well being in their life. There may be a relationship breakdown or disconnection, a painful change of life circumstance, sadness, depression, guilt and anxiety - these issues visit all of us at some point in our lives. As an experienced therapist, I have been helping people through these difficulties for the past 18 years.

I work with clients to develop greater levels of self acceptance and self compassion. Aspects of therapy are also practical and may involve developing new ways of relating to yourself and others, solving problems and developing new skills which will enable you to create healthier and more satisfying bonds.

A key aspect of my way of working is that I place an equal focus on what is strong, healthy and successful in your life. By acknowledging, articulating and building on what is working well, clients are enabled and empowered, not only to solve problems and gain new perspectives, but also to achieve higher levels of hope, resilience and confidence.

Collaborative, empowering approach

Always keeping in mind the goals you set, the focus is on understanding your motivations, attitudes and feelings as well as your deepest held beliefs about yourself, others and the world. This allows you to begin to challenge negative beliefs and thoughts which interfere with stable levels of well- being and happiness.

Sessions are dynamic and solution focussed.

A deepening understanding of yourself facilitates a more conscious and intentional approach to life and the challenges you face. As awareness increases you will find that you are able to step away from rote and conditioned behaviour and instead - choose and experiment with healthy and more empowered ways of being.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My approach to couples work is a personal synthesis of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), developed by Dr Sue Johnson and a Psycho-neurobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) developed by U.S couples therapist, Dr Stan Tatkin.

EFT is a structured therapeutic approach with an emphasis on helping partners to re-organise their emotional responses to each other in order to create a more securely bonded relationship. EFT helps shift each partner’s responses within entrenched negative interactions and helps couples establish more beneficial cycles of interaction that promote closeness, trust and emotional safety.

The Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy® (PACT) uses neuroscience and attachment theory to improve interactions between couples and to help create secure attachment. This approach, developed by Dr. Stan Tatkin helps couples notice their reactions as they occur and to learn how to better address each other's attachment needs.
