I am a highly qualified and experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor working in Haslemere within easy reach of Godalming, Farnham, Liphook and Midhurst. I have been practising for over 20 years and have helped clients with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, relationship issues and many others. Using a supportive approach, I work with individuals and couples and offer short or longer term therapy. My counselling room is very private and quiet in a pleasant location within easy reach of Haslemere town centre and the station.
My approach is essentially Humanistic. I tailor the session according to my client’s needs at that time. No two people are the same so no two sessions are the same. What is constant is my intention to bring a supportive, respectful and non-judgemental presence to facilitate my client’s exploration of the issues they bring whatever they may be.
The focus of my work is the enhancement of my client's relationship with her/himself as well as with others. Change becomes possible when my clients are helped to discover more about how they are now and what opportunities and choices may actually now be open to them.
During the first session I talk to my clients about whether short term or longer term therapy would be most suitable for them. At the beginning, it is often not possible to know how many sessions a client will need so I often work on an open-ended basis.
Training, qualifications & experience
After spending over 20 years working in business, I wanted to pursue my long held interest in counselling. My years of training started with a Counselling Certificate in 1989. My fascination for therapy eventually led me to join the psychotherapy training at the Gestalt Centre London. It was from here that I was awarded a masters degree and I qualified as a UKCP registered psychotherapist. I have continued to increase my knowledge by regularly attending short courses and workshops and integrate this new information into my work. Equally important has been the personal development I gained from many years of individual and group therapy. My experience of personal growth underpins my belief in the value of ongoing self-awareness for myself and for my clients.
I have been running a private practice in Haslemere since 1996. I also had a practice at the Gestalt Centre London for 5 years and have worked as a voluntary counsellor and committee member in a local counselling service.
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
My fees for individual clients are £65 per session during the daytime and £70per session in the evening. Sessions are for 50 minutes.
My fee for couples counselling is £80 per hour during the daytime and £85 in the evenings. I find that I need to spend an hour talking with couples to clarify their needs when we first meet. In following sessions we may meet for hourly sessions or for a slightly longer time as required.
I work in the daytime and evenings on weekdays
If you require any further information you are very welcome to telephone or email me.
