About me

Are you struggling to cope with life's problems? Do you need time and space to reflect on your life in a safe and trusting professional relationship?

Counselling can offer the opportunity to reflect on all aspects of your life, a time to release emotions, explore thoughts and beliefs, and consider changes you would like to make.
I offer Integrative Counselling based on the CWR model of Christian Counselling. Emphasis is on the whole person, identifying how the problem is affecting the person physically, emotionally, rationally, behaviourally, and spiritually. Exploration of these areas can help a person to move forward and discover the freedom to grow.

Although this Integrative model is based on Christian Biblical Values, it is not exclusively used to counsel Christian Clients- I welcome any individual, whatever their religious belief or background. Short-term counselling is offered to develop strategies of coping, and longer-term counselling provides opportunity to consider issues at a deeper level, which is vital for clients struggling with more complex issues such as trauma and abuse.

I also offer supervision for counsellors-please contact for further details.

Due to the continued prevalence of Coronavirus, I offer Face-to-Face sessions with additional precautions in place. Details will be given prior to assessment. I am also holding sessions via Zoom, WhatsApp, Skype and on the telephone.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1987.
Completed a Listening Course and Certificate in Counselling Skills for Pastoral Care in 2003.

I started counselling in 2006, whilst studying at Diploma level.

I have since completed a Diploma Extension Course, the Advanced Diploma in Christian Counselling in 2010 and achieved BA in counselling with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 2014.

I have attended further training regarding trauma, including somatic understanding and beneficial techniques, sexual abuse, dissociation and eating disorders.

I am an accredited Registered Member of The BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and as such I am bound by its ethical framework for good practice. I also hold personal indemnity insurance.

I have also completed a certificate in counselling supervision in 2012 and a Diploma in counselling supervision at Waverley Abbey College in 2019.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Key details

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I have a hand rail on the wall, adjacent to the main door and a ramp to the rear entrance of the counselling room.
