Hello and welcome.
My name is Ray Bruce and I'm a registered member of the BACP with 10 years experience of working professionally as a Psychotherapist. I provide a professional and confidential psychotherapy and counselling service near Barnstaple, North Devon.
WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling provides a safe, non judgemental environment for you to talk about your concerns. The counselling process is to act as a container, where you can feel 'held', heard and understood enabling you to express your feelings and difficulties.
As a counsellor my role is to facilitate a space for you to begin to make sense of the world and in doing so to help you to understand what's going on and therefore be more available to making positive changes. Regular sessions can give you the opportunity ( maybe for the first time) to explore your history at a pace that feels right. This aspect of the counselling process helps you to see and understand how patterns and behaviours are (being) repeated outside of your conscious awareness and therefore building a wider knowledge of yourself and those around you.
So what can I help you with?
I offer face to face and telephone counselling. There are many reasons why people seek out counselling or Psychotherapy. These are just a few examples of the issues that I have helped clients deal with.
- Relationship Issues
- Bereavement and Loss
- Sexuality and Identity issues
- HIV and AIDS related issues
- Family issues
- Early Childhood and Past Experiences
If you’re looking for a counsellor near Bideford, I offer counselling and psychotherapy in Barnstaple, Devon.
One to One Counselling in Barnstaple.
The way I'll work with you is informed by an Integrative Perspective.
This means I use a variety of different theories, philosophies and techniques. This can help to broaden the way that we work together, enhancing my ability to adapt to your ever-changing developmental needs.
Integrative Counselling draws on mainstream theoretical perspectives, utilising knowledge and skills from different therapies. As Individuals we think, feel and react in different ways. As an integrative counsellor, I will work with you to produce a unique therapy, adapted to suit you and your needs whether it be Relationship Issues, Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Bereavement and Loss.
The exact nature of the work we do will depend on what suits you best.
As my client, you are an individual and the concerns and issues that you bring are unique to you. You may wish to talk about your current situation, for example, if you are experiencing stress at work or in your relationship. There may be something in your past that you which to address, for example, if you've ever felt depressed.
There is no set pace at which we work. However, if you feel you need to set goals with a certain life situation that is fine too.

Counselling for men
Why Men's Counselling?
Well, the good news is that more and more men are seeking counselling and psychotherapy than ever before.
How can Men's Counselling Help?
For some men, counselling provides their first experience of talking openly and honestly about themselves and about how they are feeling.
For many men, counselling can help by examining the emotional and psychological blocks that prevent clear communication of feelings and needs. Men's Counselling can improve your quality of life, promote self-awareness and boost your self-confidence.
- Men's Counselling can help with issues like:
- Substance and Alcohol Abuse.
- Relationship Issues.
- Anger Issues.
- Difficulties feeling and Sustaining Intimacy.
- Mid-Life Crisis.
- Depression and Low Self-Esteem.
It can often seem that society 'conditions' men in believing that to express emotions or feelings is a sign of weakness. This 'conditioning' can make it even harder for men to seek help. However, to admit that you have a problem and seek support is often one of the most difficult and bravest things a man can do.
If you are seeking a male counsellor in Barnstaple or men's counselling near Bideford, you can contact me in the strictest of confidence on 01271 831514 or 07775635568. Or email me at email@example.com
Fees: Sessions are £40
By couples, I mean any two people that are in a relationship be it married, a civil partnership, gay, heterosexual or lesbian.
You will be seen in a safe, confidential setting to explore your current issues and concerns and to see if working with a Couples Counsellor can help you and your relationship.
During a lasting relationship, people face many important decisions and turning points. Sometimes couples can't talk to each other about these problems. Meeting with a counsellor can be a way to open up communications through a better understanding of the underlying issues.
One of the aims of couple/relationship counselling is to help you overcome
emotional difficulties and develop the confidence to rebuild your lives.
Some of the things Couples/Relationship Counselling may aim to achieve are;
- Better communication
- A more stable family life
- Improved sexual relationship
- Greater awareness of your partner’s needs
- Reduced jealousy
- Increased confidence
