About me

Hi

Life can be very challenging and sometimes we need professional help to make sense of what is happening to us, how to manage and cope, gain perspectives and be able to see the wood for the trees. Anxiety and depression and feelings of life being too much is a way for the body to let us know that all is not well, the brain is activated by something and sends signals alerting of the potential threat to our current situation, we may feel despairing or fearful, be out of our depth in knowing how or what to do or even how to cope with every day tasks and decisions and without the feeling of being able to activate rationale thoughts.  This generally happens when life throws up experiences that cause shock and upset and our body may go into a panic or overload of thinking and catastrophising. It is very hard 'doing life' on your own and feeling there is no-one solid or non judgemental to support you.

I offer you the opportunity to gain a perspective and understanding of yourself by working with you collaboratively to grow your self reflective process and self awareness, promoting personal power and autonomy.  I believe we valiantly try our best to survive, no matter how painful but sometimes we need to reach out for help from a professional.

Sharing your discomforts, fears, anxieties and worries in your own way, at your own pace, with no pressures or judgement can allow you to breath and find a reflective and confidential space.

Trauma comes in various guises, there can be big traumas which are more easily recognised, there are also smaller, continuous knock backs and negative messages that will also cause trauma to the brain and body giving an emotional negative response.  I have a vast knowledge as a trauma specialist and my understanding and skill set allows me to work flexibly with a wide range of issues. Maintaining consistent professional development gives me a sturdy and reliable platform from which to work and support my clients ethically and responsibly.

Together we will look to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship based on respect and understanding through a gentle and genuine process, providing a confidential safe space where you have the autonomy to explore and reflect upon my interventions. Getting under the skin to assess the infected areas of your life and make the appropriate changes for healing to take place.  I have a genuine interest in you and your well being, wanting to assist you in the best way I can to develop to the best of your ability.

I offer counselling weekly or fortnightly depending upon your requirements. I appreciate this is a commitment, financially, emotionally and physically. Change takes courage, determination, resilience and the timing needs to be right for you. Committing to this process is the first step of many towards making changes in your life.

I work with many areas including:  anxiety, trauma, abuse, dissociative identity disorder, depression; panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, self harm; relationship breakdown, low self esteem, stress, loss, bereavement, cancer diagnosis and living with cancer, family dynamic difficulties, low mood, self loathing. I have a good awareness and understanding of ADHD and ASD.

My latest fee is £55 for daytime appointments and £65 for evening appointments.  I use my EMDR training as a tool for all my clients if we decide together this is a good option for you.

I am a Senior Accredited member of the BACP and I work alongside their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Profession.

I am an EMDR Therapist, accredited training with EMDR Academy, London.  EMDR is an effective treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety and other disorders. EMDR is an 8 Phase Process using a collaborative comprehensive approach using protocols and procedures to identify negative, disturbing beliefs and to reduce the client's reaction physically and emotionally to those memories by use of Bilateral Stimulation.  Further information can be found at: https://www.emdracademy.co.uk/why-emdr

I enjoy an interactive and collaborative relationship with my clients where we work alongside on your journey.  I trained as an Integrative therapist which combines theoretical models, Person Centred, Psychotherapy, aspects of CBT and Transactional Analysis. I may also work creatively using art, mind-maps, stones, sand tray or other objects etc, if this is something you and I decide is right for you.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
