About me

Integral soulful conversations

For individuals and couples, I offer deep, soulful conversations that focus in helping you find yourself, fulfil yourself and grow yourself in this troubled and beautiful world. This might look and feel like counselling, coaching, psychotherapy, spiritual companionship or all (or none) of the above! You can find more details by clicking HERE and downloading my latest information sheet. My face-to-face work takes place at the St Davids Wellbeing Centre in Pembrokeshire, but I can also work via. Skype, Facetime and email support.

Climate minds

These days, I am particularly concerned in supporting individuals who are looking to respond – in whatever way – to the crisis of climate breakdown and related challenges. This might involve working to support you in your wellbeing, spirituality, creativity, activism, art – or a combination of all these. The climate emergency is a particular and unique trauma that we have never faced before, so it is not surprising that people find it difficult to respond to and live with. This might involve us in living well in the present, even if we cannot hold hope for the future.

Working together

You might also complement your therapy or coaching with the Deep Wellbeing and Soulmaking course running at St Davids Wellbeing Centre and online from October 2019 (see below for an outline of this), or to undertake creativity coaching to help you develop your own creativity, imagination and artistic practices. I've worked to support a number of writers, artists and creative practitioners over the years. I also current edit Unpsychology Magazine which draws together activists and artists who are responding to the big social and ecological themes in the world today.

What else might you need to know?

I originally trained as a counsellor in Oxford, and followed this up with an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute. Since then, I have undertaken further professional trainings with Relate and the Spiritual Companions Trust. My own further professional development includes training and workshops in EMDR, Ecopsychology, Writing for Wellbeing, Integral Practice and Mindfulness – to name just a few.

I am currently involved with the Climate Psychology Alliance – a forum for psychologists and therapists make connections between depth psychology and climate change, as we all face the difficult truths of climate change and ecological crisis.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked as a counsellor, psychotherapist, coach and facilitator for over 20 years. This work has taken place in numerous settings including workplaces, schools, GP surgeries, working for Relate, in private practice and in the community. I originally qualified with a counselling diploma (Oxford Brookes Univ), followed this up with an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy (Metanoia Institute), and have undertaken further trainings with Relate, the Spiritual Companions Trust and in EMDR, ecopsychology, writing for wellbeing, integral practice and mindfulness, working with death and bereavement – to name just a few.

I undertake regular supervision with my colleague and senior therapist, Michael Soth - whose work you can read about at: http://counsellingpsychotherapycpd.co.uk/index.php and http://oxfordcounsellingpsychotherapy.co.uk

I trained at the Counselling Consultancy Oxford, Metanoia Institute, Relate and the Spiritual Companions Trust. I am also currently a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and part of the Spiritual Companions Trust - www.spiritualcompanions.org/

I am currently involved with the Climate Psychology Alliance – a forum for psychologists and therapists make connections between depth psychology and climate change, as we all face the difficult truths of climate change and ecological crisis.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As well as the above, I focus on soul development work, ecotherapy and spiritual companionship (inspired by the ideas of people like James Hillman, Joanne Macy, Sharon Blackie, William Bloom and others).

I am particularly concerned with supporting people with their feelings and anxieties about the Climate Emergency and related social and ecological crises. This might be as an activist working to make change through XR or other organisations – or simply dealing with the difficult feelings that emerge when you are facing the reality of climate and ecological breakdown and other problems in the world.

If you require support with areas not ticked above, I’m happy to have a phone call to discuss your needs and to find the right counsellor or psychotherapist in the area.

Further information

As well as the counselling and coaching work above, I also run workshops and courses to support people on their deep wellbeing and soul-making journeys. You can find out more about my work and writing at www.21soul.co.uk and at medium.com/soul-making

My new DEEP WELLBEING & SOULMAKING course is running as a face to face group programme in Pembrokeshire AND as online learning from Autumn 2019. I am now taking bookings for this and you can get a prospectus from HERE.

DEEP WELLBEING & SOULMAKING begins in October, face-to-face at St Davids Wellbeing Centre in Pembrokeshire, and online via webinars and video coaching.

If you're interested in the course – including costs, commitments and timescales – please get in touch by emailing me at: steve@21soul.co.uk or download the prospectus from this page.

You’ll find a brief outline of the course below:

Deep Wellbeing and Soulmaking is a learning and development programme aimed at people who are interested in creative development in these challenging times. It is for anyone interested in developing their own deep wellbeing and resilience within an ecological, connected framework.

This is a multi-session programme running from the Autumn of 2019 at St Davids Wellbeing Centre. There will be nine evening sessions – running monthly on Thursday evenings – with a full day retreat at the beginning and end of the programme. The programme is aimed at supporting psychological and spiritual development, integral life practice, ecological activism and creativity.

The course provides a deep dive into the ideas and practices of deep wellbeing and soul making. It is intended to be used flexibly and comprises nine modules and two full-day retreats, as below (dates are for the face-to-face option).

Retreat day 1, Sat. 5th October: Introduction to Deep Wellbeing, its frameworks and contexts

Monthly Modules, Thursdays 6.30 till 9.30 pm:

Module 1, October 17th: A poetic constellation of the self

Module 2, November 21st: The practices of deep wellbeing

Module 3, December 19th: Climate breakdown, unpsychology and troubled times

Module 4, January 16th 2020: Five lives of soul and shadow

Module 5, February 20th: Growing the acorn - character and calling

Module 6, March 19th: The realities of existence

Module 7, April 23rd: Experience and the constellation of the self

Module 8, May 21st: Connection, love and ecology of mind

Module 9, June 1th: The creative soul emerging

Retreat day 2: Sat. July 11th: Bringing it together – self, world and practice into action

You can also choose to discuss the ideas, questions and practices with me in one-to-one coaching sessions. The questions, activities and course notes are designed to be used flexibly, and can be used as a prompt for your reflections, journalling and group discussions.

There are two options for joining:

First - as a member of a face-to-face group course running monthly on Thursday evenings in St Davids, Pembrokeshire. This course starts and ends with two Saturday day-retreats at the Wellbeing Centre in St Davids where the learning framework will be introduced (October 5th 2019) and consolidated for the future (July 11th 2020). The other nine sessions will take place on Thursday evenings from 6.30 till 9.30 pm. There will be one coaching module included in the course and you can add more (at a discounted price) as you go. There will be 10 places on this course.

Second – you can join an online version of the course which will run over the same period, but which you undertake at home, with email and video-link coaching conversations to track your progress. The course materials are the same as for the face-to-face option above, but instead of the workshops, you can join a monthly online webinar. For a small extra charge, you’re also welcome to come to the Day Retreats in October 2019 and July 2020 if you can (see dates above) – St Davids is an AMAZING place to visit at any time of year! If you would like to do this, get in touch .

Any questions about the course or how to join, please get in touch with me: steve@21soul.co.uk
