John Davidson MBACP (Snr Accred.) - Individual & Relationship Counselling
01285 770121 / 07990 871445
My work is focussed on helping people develop the resilience to better cope with and enjoy life, to have a sense of well-being whatever difficulties they may face.
The commons troubles - anxiety, depression & relationships
Anxiety, depression, and unhappy relationships are symptoms of deeper troubles. And while medication and brief therapies might ease our symptoms for a while, it is normally only by exploring more deeply that we can discover and address the causes. Then we can develop the inner strength we need if we are to find long term relief.
The approach I use
I work using the well-proven psychodynamic approach. At times I adopt cognitive and behavioural approaches, the latter particularly with couples and people with Asperger’s Syndrome.
I help my clients to engage and collaborate. Together we explore, their situations and actions, and their difficult feelings. We discover how these have been shaped by past and present experiences. And as a result it is common for them to develop relational experiences previously denied, experiences they can then foster outside of counselling.
My counselling/psychotherapy background
I began counselling/psychotherapy work ovr 20 years ago with individuals and groups in the workplace. For 15 years I was a senior counsellor and assessor with Gloucestershire’s largest counselling agency. Today I work in private practice mostly with clients who refer themselves. Others are referred by GP’s and various organisations.
Where I am based
My counselling room is located in the village of Coates; 5 minutes drive from Cirencester, and 15 minutes from Stroud and from Tetbury. It is also within easy reach of Burford, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Lechlade, Malmesbury and Swindon.
How ethical is my practice?
I am accredited (MBACP Snr Accred) by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their code of ethics. I am also on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors / Psychotherapists (UKRCP), am a Member of the Association for Pastoral, Spiritual Care and Counselling (APSCC), and am a BACP Workplace Member.
In addition: providing clinical supervision
I am also a clinical supervisor supporting counsellors with a range of counselling disciplines, e.g. psychodynamic, person-centred, solution focussed, gestalt, integrative. I supervise counsellors for OH Assist and Listening Post as well as having my own private supervisees.
