Brian Turner MBACP (Accred)
Newport Cottage Care Centre
I have over 40 years experience in counselling, working in a wide variety of settings. I offer counselling for individuals and couples. This can be either face to face in Shropshire or online.
I have counselled for several Employee Assistance Programmes including a local authority.
I was a Relate Counsellor for over twenty years and a Supervisor of other Counsellors for over fifteen years. I am a member of Couples Counselling Network which recruits Experienced Relationship Counsellors throughout the UK. I have been a Tutor and Supervisor for Online Training for Counsellors onlinetrainingforcounsellors.co.uk.
I am a Registered Accredited Counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have the Certificate in Couple Counselling, Diploma in Social Work, the CQSW and a Diploma in Community and Youth Work.
How can I help?
I try to offer counselling that is the most useful to your circumstances, some people like to look at how they have got to where they are, others like practical strategies and ideas to manage their current situation and relationship issues some both of these - whatever works best for you.
The counselling I offer is shortish term - I'm aware you are paying!
What to expect
I undertake Face to Face Counselling in a hired room in Newport, Shropshire. Sessions last for one hour. At the first session we can discuss what concerns you now. If we decide it could be useful we can arrange a few more weekly sessions and review progress at the end of them, continuing if appropriate.
This can be as a fill in for face to face sessions when you can't attend as often as you would wish and we can talk online through Skype either with or without a camera.
We can book an initial number of sessions, review progress at the end of these then book more if we both feel this is appropriate.
Training, qualifications & experience
The Relate training gave me a grounding in the three stage model of counselling and employs Psycho-dynamic theories including Object Relations and Attachment as well as Systemic - Life stages, Family backgrounds and beliefs, Life scripts in working with individuals and couples regarding their relationship issues.
These influences have enabled me to develop a style that allows for curiosity, a both/and position, maybes‚ rather than certainties. I have developed an increased awareness of the importance of listening to the clients story and what they want from the counselling as well as a willingness, when appropriate to both challenge and to share my own feelings. I also see it as important to offer strategies that can effect change and often suggest exercises that may do this at a behavioural level. I am still developing and changing my practice.
