About me

                                     *****CORONA VIRUS *****

********************CORONA VIRUS UPDATE**************************

For many, the current pandemic has created additional challenges to how we lead our lives and how we relate to our friends and family. This may have a negative impact on how we feel about ourselves and the world and leave us feeling particularly vulnerable and worried. Do you feel anxious, sad or are you experiencing panic attacks? Counselling could help with talking some of these feelings through.

Following NHS and Government advice I have for the time being stopped seeing clients face to face in my clinic. I am however offering counselling by telephone as I have experience of this in my Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) work. I can also offer sessions online by Zoom or a similar platform.

Please contact me, my details are below.

Fee for a 50 minute telephone session: £40.00

                                      ************************

At some times in our life we struggle to make sense of things, or know what to do next. When life gets tough and you are finding it hard to cope what can you do?

It maybe that you are trying to deal with bereavement, relationship or family difficulties, anxiety or depression. Perhaps you are finding it hard to communicate with people at home or at work. Your self esteem is low or your confidence needs a boost. In this time of the pandemic, our resilience can be tested.

Often talking things through with friends or family is just not enough. Counselling can help you sort out your thoughts and feelings and come to a place where you can make changes, gain understanding and get life back into balance.

I provide a confidential environment where you can talk through the problems you are experiencing and which are making life difficult for you.
I believe people have the ability to find their own way through life but on occasions need some support and nurture to find that way.

My initial training was in Person-Centred counselling, I now work as a humanistic therapist following my training in Transactional Analysis which considers how our past impacts on our present lives.
Both approaches focus on the individual achieving their full potential through greater self awareness.

I offer individual counselling for adults and young people and have appointments throughout the day and evening.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a counsellor in 2000 and have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Diploma in Transactional Analysis.

I am a senior accredited and registered member of BACP

I have worked with a wide variety of issues and clients from different age groups, ethnic backgrounds, genders and sexualities; I worked as a volunteer counsellor and supervisor with Cruse Bereavement Care for over 12 years and with other charities for the severely disabled and those with acquired brain injury. I have also counselled students and young people at a local college.

My previous working background is in Personnel and Human Resources which has given me an understanding of workplace issues such as bullying, disciplinary procedures, long term sick absence management procedures and occupational health support. I work for a number of Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP).

I have regular supervision and am committed to continually developing myself as a person. I  keep up to date with current thinking through my professional body's CPD requirements. I have recently undergone further training in working with Trauma and I am currently studying embodied authenticity.

I have trained in offering counselling support to autistic clients.

I have experience in supporting students of counselling through their course requirements as a counsellor or supervisor. I also sit on an examining board for a Sussex training establishment.

I have a Diploma in Relationship-Based Supervision, and offer individual and group supervision.
My fee for supervision is £40 for an hour, £60 for 1.5 hours. I can offer some time at a low cost for students.

I have been DBS checked.
Please contact me for further details.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
