Testimonials from clients

Working with Steve was amazing and very helpful. He gave me the tools that I needed to be able to unravel and understand myself and what a relief it is to have a deeper understanding of me. Ive now completely let go of negative things that I was holding on to and that I was unnecessarily blaming myself for. I now have a greater understanding of myself and how I can create a more peaceful enjoyable and fulfilling future for myself. I met Steve feeling full of pain and despair and I left him feeling calm, peaceful and excited about my future. Truly amazing.N.W.

One of the great things about Steve is that he harbours an atmosphere whereby mistakes or saying things you may not mean entirely is OK and even productive!           E.O.

"Therapy made a profound difference in my life, the open and compassionate environment induced by my therapist was a breath of fresh air. It allowed me to look deep inside myself and comfortably explore things that I was trying to evade and move forward." T.F.

Training, qualifications & experience

I originally trained in Person Centred Therapy, subsequently completed a Master's degree in Jungian Psychotherapy and have furthered my training in Advanced Integrative Therapy. I have experience with young people, asylum seekers and refugees and a keen interest in the transmission and healing of trauma. Currently I am working a lot with Internal Family Systems and Voice Dialogue.

For many years I have been exploring the healing potential of altered states. Particularly in working with trauma and pre-verbal wounds I have realised that accessing the 'inner healer' through various forms of 'energy work' such as Holotropic Breathwork and Advanced Integrative Therapy (previously Seemorg Matrix) can be effective in helping the client's process. All of this is most safely achieved within the context of a robust container of relational therapy.

More recently I have become involved in the burgeoning renaissance of psychedelic medicines and have been facilitating on licensed medical trials of these substances, most notably psilocybin and 5-MEO. I believe that these substances offer a paradigm shift in the help offered to people with various mental health presentations. During trainings to orient my practice towards psychedelic assisted facilitation and particularly clinical trials, I have learned afresh the importance of preparation and integration for these experiences to be useful. I am also deeply mindful of the wisdom traditions of indigenous communities that have taught us how to use ritual and ceremony with respect to plant medicines.

I do not offer private psychedelic assisted psychotherapy sessions as this type of work is still illegal outside licensed facilities, nor do I encourage people to experiment with substances that have the potential to destabilise outside a clinical setting. However I am able to offer one-to-one preparation or integration sessions as needed when slots are available.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

See my website to get a fuller feel of whether I am the right sort of therapist for you.

I was accredited by being a full member of the Independent Practitioners 027242_logo.jpgNetwork for over ten years - this is an on-going peer-reviewed process that far exceeds the requirements of BACP or UKCP accreditation.

UPDATE: Since some recent changes in the professional landscape I have resigned from UKAHPP and am now a direct registrant with UKCP. See my website for more discussion on what accreditation might mean to you..
