Anxiety and/or depression are terrible things. They disrupt daily life, can disrupt relationships and cause family issues, reducing enthusiasm for work, rest and play. Feelings of anger, sadness and anxiety become difficult to manage and can leave you feeling stuck. It can leave you seeking an answer to an unknown question.
There may be a simple explanation for your feeling of unhappiness, or the reasons may be more complex - perhaps difficulty with anger management, bereavement, depression or problems in a relationship, fears about work or money, or the loss of someone close. Maybe it is not so easy to explain what's going on for you - there is just a nagging sense of things not being right..
As a professionally trained psychotherapist, I provide psychotherapy or counselling, if it is more appropriate, to individuals about many different issues (see below for a full list). Although I am happy to work with any issue, I am particularly interested in stress and its connections to anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues and I work with individuals who are under extreme pressure affecting their work/life balance.
Having practised as a solicitor for a number of years, I moved my focus to assisting people whose emotional life is causing them problems, both at home and at work. My experience has included working within the NHS for two years as a volunteer psychotherapist and working as a student counsellor in a university. I also work as a workplace mediator for businesses in the private sector across the UK.
My aim is to enable a client to begin to discover who they really are, to work with them to enhance their life choices, and to help them through their particular anxieties, trauma or events that have had a negative impact on their life. My preferred style of practise is psychodynamic by which I explore how issues from the past may be having an impact on the present, particularly where there is a problem with a generalised anxiety disorder.
The biggest joy in my work is to see a client regain their enthusiasm and begin to improve their self worth, enhancing the way they feel about themselves and others and also enabling them to achieve greater success in their working life, their personal and family relationships, and in their personal life.
