About me

I have been working as an NHS Counsellor in Blaenau Gwent for 20 years,  seeing clients with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma,  relationship issues, bereavement and loss, adjustment to illness and disability, and self-esteem issues, for six to ten sessions.

I combine a person-centred approach, to build the counselling relationship, with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and NLP, to modify thinking styles and behaviour, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and EMDR, to build on personal strengths and resources.  I also use EMDR to reduce traumatic symptoms.  Whichever approach I use,  the relationship is key for me.

I taught Counselling for 10 years, (AQA/CPCAB), and have been providing group supervision to students on placement with MIND for the last 12 years, so am very in touch with current counselling theory and college requirements.

I value learning and self-development, and have recently participated in a 12-week online group coaching program for female entrepreneurs. and an 8-week online discussion group of the book "Calling in the One", to attract love into your life.  I have found both supportive and confidence-building.

I have lived and worked in Europe and South East Asia,  and love languages and exploring different cultures.

I am a Reiki Master (Usui, Karuna, and Holy Fire), and Reiki Drum Practitioner, and appreciate the peace of giving and receiving Reiki healing energy, as well as the excitement and rhythm of attending a monthly drum circle.

I enjoy live music, and have attended some great live folk and jazz recently.

I am also very happy immersing myself in a historical drama on Netflix, or a romcom at the cinema.

I love walking with the local Ramblers, and believe in the value of physical activity, contact with nature, and social time, to lift the spirits.

I enjoy a challenge,  and completed the Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain, with a friend, over 4 years, which was a great achievement.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Ebbw Vale Learning Action Centre is a few doors down from Home Bargains, opposite the multi storey.

It has a reception and a small waiting area at the entrance.

The rooms I use at the Centre vary in size, location, and use, eg. the Tutor Room, on the ground floor, behind reception, is small, and also used by a bank several times a week, to support customers in the community, the Studio, on the ground floor, at the back of the centre, is larger, and also used for courses, Training Room 1, on the first floor, accessible via lift or steps, is also large and used for courses.

All rooms have windows, and are wheelchair-accessible.

There are wheelchair-accessible toilets downstairs and upstairs.

The centre is open 9am-9pm Mon-Thurs, and 9am-5pm Fri, during term time, and 9am-5pm Mon-Fri during holidays.

Parking is available for free, with no time limit, both in the multistorey car park opposite, and the outdoor car park opposite.

The room I use in Llanfoist Village Hall is a meeting room, with easy access down a few steps.  The room is very spacious,  light, and well-ventilated.  There is also a main hall and a gallery in the building,  where classes (yoga, pilates,  fitness) are held.  The room is available day and evening.  Parking is in a big gravel car park outside the main entrance.

I am very flexible in my approach,  and use whichever therapy suits the client's issue.  I am happy to do just one session, or several sessions.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Llanfoist Village Hall, Ebbw Vale Learning Action Centre, and The Fold, Bransford, Worcestershire, are all accessible by wheelchair,
