About me

So, here we are in  Spring 2024!

Do you or someone close to you need help?   .
Yourself? Partner? Husband? Wife? Your children or teenagers? A relative? A friend? A sibling?

Anxious? Depressed? Low self esteem? Stressed?

You may have been diagnosed recently with ADHD, Autism,  PTSD, etc.

In this  ever changing world we live in, it can be difficult to manage  life as it is now, but you want and need help… when…now? Reach out for help. It takes courage - but once you’ve texted, emailed or phoned me, you’re on the first step. You are on your way to make 2024 a year of change ..for the better.

Things change. Whenever you turn on the news, how does it affect you, your family and friends ,not to mention the pets too?

The impact on their day to day lives cannot be underestimated..

Added to that, we have the repercussions of the Ukraine war which has impacted the financial aspects of our lives.

And the uncertainties of AI  (Artificial intelligence). on our lives.

It is with this in mind, it just maybe the right  time to talk to someone on the outside and look how you can move forward to a brighter future.

Relationship problems! Anxiety! Depression!Bereavement! Family issues! All of these are the most common reasons why people seek counselling, and there are so very many more.

Where or how would you like to start your counselling sessions?

In person? - either in the comfortable surrounds of :Glannaman Community Centre or The Chinese Medical Centre in Swansea or in your very own home. I will come to you, if that makes it easier.

Telephone?:

I am finding more and more clients are finding telephone counselling their preferred option for sessions. Why? They are free to take their sessions anywhere, any time and any place.

If they are finding it difficult to physically get to a face to face session, or the times are just too problematic - their mobile gives them the freedom…whether working from home, working difficult shifts, childcare issues.

There will always be a way to manage to  find time to fit in your very important sessions. Sessions where you will be able to go to the very heart of what is your very own personal worries that are causing you anxiety or distress.

I have even had a client in his works van…wherever is suitable for you.

Texting / email: Again, with my training with the SHOUT helpline, many people found this method surprisingly effective.

Text or email me now. Let me help you be able to look back and say that 2024 was the year that changed my life that I am now looking forward not back.

I am also available to visit me at my office in Swansea or Ammanford - or - I can visit you in your own home.

Who are you, Jo, and why did you become a counsellor?

I am a mother of two adult daughters and live in a beautiful part of Wales at present.

As my daughters say; "You have always been a counsellor, Mum."
I see counselling as an extension to my nursing. The one big thing that counselling gives me to give to you is 'time'. Time is sadly lacking in our rushed society.

My motto is: "You only have one life - it's not a rehearsal. It's the real thing".

So...pick up the phone/text/email me

The pandemic!  Has it left you confused, isolated, anxious, depressed or feeling lonely? The changes that we were asked to make to our lives affected many.

.It seems that we as a nation have also changed the way we communicate with each other. I’m very aware that now we are being asked to go back to ‘normal’,

For so many, their lives have changed completely….some for the better and some, not so.

So if you recognise the above - you are not the only one. You are not alone.

Phone/ text/ email/ skype /zoom

I OFFER:

Face to face sessions
Telephone sessions
Home visits
Walk and Talk sessions

If you have not had counselling before -it can be a little daunting. The first session is you and I getting to know each other, for you to feel comfortable, to discuss your issues sensitively. You can then decide whether you wish to make further appointments.

Usually, we contract for four to six sessions and then review. You may need more, you may need less - it is entirely up to you.

I really look forward to helping you through to the future.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

TESTIMONIAL

Thank You Jo!

I write this poem because I wanted to say

Thank You Jo for your understanding caring way

I felt in my heart that you could understand

How to give me that extra, unique helping hand.

I realised early on....right from the start

That you could see and feel the pain in my heart.

I'd lost my son Rhydian, also my mum and my dad

And I felt hopeless, weak...and deeply sad.

Your experience, counselling and care was the expertise

That helped me talk...because I felt at ease.

You helped me move forward as you listened so much,

And your words of guidance had that loving touch.

When we first met I couldn't cope...I was a real mess,

But with your help, times like that got less and less.

You lightened my load on my journey through grief,

And helped me grow stronger and restore my belief

That my mind could get out of this dark sad place

To live my life with hope, faith, strength and grace.

On earth my son and my parents could no longer be,

But you guided me to realise and helped me see

That the good memories would get stronger everyday

And in my mind and heart they would forever stay.

Now I remember them with my heart full of joy

My Dad, my Mum and Rhydian my special boy!

Thanks and Best Wishes from Enfysxxxx
