About me

Anxiety, worry, fear, sadness, stress, knocks to confidence/self esteem, depression, grief/loss, anger/conflict, relationship problems . . . these can devastate your usual ability to cope, impacting on every aspect of your life. The resulting emotional turmoil can be overwhelming, exhausting, leaving you feeling de-skilled, lonely, isolated and scared.

As well as considerable experience helping others with these issues, I myself have suffered and successfully overcome them at different times in my life.

Counselling is About ‘Therapeutic Change’ (change for the better/personal empowerment).
Whatever is causing your distress it shows strength, not weakness, to seek support from a professional with whom you can talk, in confidence, about your distress; who treats you with respect and doesn't judge; someone not involved but who is committed to helping you work out what's best for you, all things considered.

Choose Your Counsellor/Psychotherapist Carefully
Choosing someone with whom to share deeply personal stuff isn't easy. There are an ever increasing number of counsellors/psychotherapists from which to choose.  In checking them out, trust your instinct in deciding which of them feel right for you. After all, overcoming whatever is or has been preventing you enjoying life is what is most important.

If my profile resonates, please contact me. If we choose to work together, I will do my best to help you explore and work towards overcoming whatever is/has been causing your distress.

As well as an Accredited/AVR Registered Counsellor, I am also a Positive Life Change Specialist and Holistic Therapist & Teacher.  As a mature counsellor, I have 20+ years' experience building trust and helping others find lasting ways of dealing with issues troubling them and impacting on their self esteem, relationships, career, studies, etc and preventing them living life the way they prefer.

My Counselling Style
is largely humanistic / person-centred and, with your agreement, I integrate CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques, Mindfulness, TA (Transactional Analysis) and aspects of other counselling orientations. My many years' experience in HR, business, education and holistic therapies contribute to my integrative approach; I offer the skills gained from each of these gently, respectfully and appropriately in line with what will best benefit you.

I can work with your for short, medium or longer term therapy and will treat you with respect as the unique human being you are - with all of your talents and limitations. I'll encourage development of a counselling relationship that builds trust and enables you to achieve real growth.  I won't tell you what to do. Instead, respecting you as the expert in your own life, I'll assist you in finding your own solutions. And I'll provide support as you examine the pros and cons of different options towards any changes you decide to make.

My motivational, empowering approach is gentle but it also includes respectful challenges to irrational thinking/beliefs and redundant defence mechanisms.

AVR Registered with BACP & NCS
I am Accredited with the National Counselling Society and am a full member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy. I am AVR registered with both.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
