Liz Silverston MBACP (Accred) Post Graduate Diploma in Couple Counselling
I have worked as a counsellor for over 20 years.
I am a qualified BACP Accredited and a Relate trained counsellor. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Couple Counselling.
I have worked in Acute and Community Mental health.
I specialise in working with young people over the age of 16 and trained as a Young People's Counsellor at Relate. I particularly work with College and University students.
I specialise in Anger Management.
With relationship counselling I see couples who want to explore the impact and meaning of an affair, jealousy, the ending of a relationship, separation or divorce. There may be communication difficulties and assumptions being made leading to resentments. You may have difficulties committing or move from one relationship to another and want to make sense of that.We will look at your needs and expectaions and then explore your hopes and fears for the future of your relationship.
With Young Peoples Counselling I can help with Mental Health and other Psychological problems. I explore issues around self esteem and confidence and can help with self harm and suicadal ideation ( thoughts ). Students want tools to help with their experience at College or University i.e. bullying, how to manage their work load, social anxieties. So a large part of my work as a Student Counsellor is helping students to have a positive experience at college or university and to make the most of the opportunities they provide.
I work in a truly collaborative way with you where by I see us working through issues in the counselling process in order to understand and make sense of them in a neutral space and be able to to put your point across in a heard and safe environment. Its about clearing barriers and having the potential to re-write your story.
I always take time to acknowledge your bravery in taking the initial decision to come to counselling as it is not an easy option and can be a very painful process. The time spent in the sessions will enable you to look at yourself and your relationships in a different and healthier way.I can't guarantee that you will leave me singing ang dancing into the sunset but I will try and enable you to have new tools and strategies for managing your life and to make informed decisions regarding your future.
I work with a variety of theories and see myself as an Intergrative Therapist. I am trained in the following .
CBT-this helps you to change your thinking errors and NATS ( negative automative thoughts ) and to challenge these by finding alternative more helpful thoughts.
Solution Focused Therapy-goal setting and focusing on solveable problems.
Systemic Therapy-Within this theory are the concepts of of curiosity, taking an observer perspective, hypothesising and speculating.
Attachment Therapy- this is the ability for you to grow, branch out, take risks and develop a personality through a sense of stability and security. I will encourage you to explore your attachments to others and thus endeavour to create a secure base.
I offer brief and long term counselling and it is important for me to reflect on the counselling process at regular intervals to be certain that you find the process helpful. I will ask what has been useful and perhaps what could be better or different as I feel that this is an ethical way of working. If I do not have the expertise to help you I will refer you to another professional or agency
Please visit my website www.eyetoeyecounselling.co.uk to have a more in depth view of the work that I do.
If you leave me with the tools and strategies to manage your lives in a different way then I feel that I have done my work.
I am passionate about my work as a counsellor, and feel privileged to be a part of the journey you are making in your life.
