About me

Hello.  I expect that you are looking at my listing because you are wondering whether to start some counselling.  I have been in practice for 15 years myself and I have had therapy from various types of practitioner so I have found that talking can really help .  It won’t work miracles and I won’t tell you what to do, but I will offer you some company in your struggle.  It may not seem much but often to be acknowledged in our pain can enable an understanding of where we are and where we want to be.

I have a general practice and am able to help people in a wide variety of situations.  My key strength is my ability to allow clients to tell their own story in their own way, without requiring them to fit any particular model or theory.  Hopefully this approach can allow the “real you” to emerge.

How I Work

We usually begin with an introductory session in which I will take basic details and ask you about your life now.  I use a  quick screening tool to give me a picture of how your life has been and then its over to you.

Where I Work From

I work from a dedicated room in my own home where there is ample parking as well as being close to bus and train stations. In addition to working with adults I provide therapy for children, young people and couples.

Couples Therapy:

On my own or with my husband Paul Beaney-Gainford I can offer relationship recovery work to suit your needs: maybe you are looking to improve an already good partnership that has hit a difficult patch; restore your lost compatibility; or discover if your relationship has irreparably broken down.

Couple counselling can enable you to find some answers.  Different to 1:1 therapy because the relationship is the "clienr" it can be a powerful intervention to enhance your own communication.

I have been working successfully with couples for over a decade and am now pleased to introduce Paul as my co-therapist in this area. we have found that having two therapists to listen and observe more than doubles the input we can make.  Our strengths are different but complementary and we hope will create a good start for you to find the tools that will help you to move forward. Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
