About me

I am an experienced senior accredited counsellor/psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the UKRCP. I have specialised in assessment and am also a qualified supervisor and registered with the British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision.

I offer short and long term counselling to individuals and couples and supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a psychodynamic counsellor and supervisor and through my work as a counsellor, supervisor and teacher of counsellor am knowledgeable and experienced in other approaches, particularly Person-Centred.

I have considerable experience in both short and long term work and am particularly interested in working with relationship problems, stress, health and work related issues, anxiety, depression, personal effectiveness and self-esteem issues.

I have worked in GP surgeries, occupational health, women's centres and supervised in a number of counselling organisations. I have experience of working with refugees and people affected by the Holocaust.

I have been teaching the Introduction to Counselling Course for Birkbeck for several years.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I trained in Assessment and have experience and expertise in Initial Assessments and Consultations.

I have recently developed my interest and skills in working with people who are suffering from infertility and miscarriage. This area of work is of great interest to me and I would like to be able to offer my services to clients who may be going through the painful experience of failed IVF and/or miscarriage. If you are not sure whether I can help you, please call me so that we can discuss and arrange a appointment to talk about whether counselling can help you deal with the experiences you may be going through at present.

I  am  curently working  with social workers, counsellors and staff who work with  first and second generation Holocaust Survivors and have developed some interest and expertise in this field over many years.

Having taught the Introduction to Counselling at Birkbeck for many years, I have now developed some skills  in teaching Listening Skills.  I now deliver courses in Active Listening Skills to Mediators who wish to improve their skills in working with the emotional component of their work. For more information and discussion please contact me.
