About me

If you are experiencing emotional problems at the moment which you are finding hard to cope with on your own I would like to help you.

I am a fully-qualified and accredited counsellor, with over 20 years' experience, offering long and short-term confidential counselling. In offering non-judgemental, empathic support I hope to help you through your current difficulties and allow you to grow in self-awareness gaining greater choice and promoting change in your life.  My clients would say that the most important quality I offer is my lack of judgement.  This allows them to put down their defences and explore their vulnerabilities, opening the door to resolving their issues, past and present.

Free assessment session

If you would like to explore your feelings and problems in a safe environment please contact me to arrange a free assessment session.

Relationship patterns and change

I am particularly interested in understanding the unconscious relationship patterns you have with others and within yourself. Often early experience means that these fixed relationship templates lead you to repeating unhelpful patterns of behaviour. Raising your awareness of these patterns can allow you to make different, conscious choices which leads to personal growth and beneficial change. Please do contact me if you are experiencing difficulties.   I would like to help.

Testimonials

I realise that committing to weekly counselling can seem like a big step so I thought it might be helpful to hear how previous clients felt about their experience of counselling with me. I am grateful to these three former clients for offering their personal accounts and testimonials.

“I first went to see Elizabeth around eight years ago and have returned for several further sessions of counselling in the intervening years.

Although I found some sessions emotionally challenging and difficult , I definitely benefitted from the lessons I learnt about myself and ultimately the changes that I was able to make to my behaviour.

Elizabeth has a remarkable ability to lead you to the heart of the issue through perceptive questioning which she manages to make sound natural and not at all contrived in the way that 'counsellor speak' can sometimes be. She is extremely empathic and engenders a real feeling of safety - a skill which made me feel comfortable enough to explore issues that I had spent years studiously avoiding!

If you are even vaguely considering counselling with Elizabeth I would urge you to go ahead. My own experience has been extremely positive and I could not recommend her more highly.”

“I found it took a lot of personal courage to finally seek counselling. I knew I had issues that I needed to deal with, they were eating me up inside and making my day to day life very difficult, but the prospect of opening the box in which I'd stored my childhood abuse and my deepest darkest emotions was terrifying.

Like most/all victims of abuse I blamed myself and I feared that in revealing what had happened to me I would be judged, that the person i opened up to would think of me in the same way I'd thought of myself for so many years. It took a few sessions before I felt comfortable enough to open up but Elizabeth provided a safe environment in which I could build up the courage to tackle my issues and she helped me to recognise that what happened to me wasn't my fault.

My counselling experience has been a long journey and at times it has been emotionally draining, but Elizabeth helped me find the confidence to work through those emotions. That first step to seek counselling is a very difficult one but it is a step I would encourage you to take; Elizabeth has helped me to work through some very difficult issues and has provided me with the mental tools to understand what triggers my emotions and how to deal with them.

As I reach the end of my counselling I am able to look back with pride at how much I have achieved and how much more comfortable I feel in my own skin. If you are looking for a counsellor I would encourage you to give Elizabeth a call, she has a caring gentle approach, allowing you to take things at your own speed but also ensuring you continue to progress through your issues and take ownership of your successes.”

"I needed some support following relationship difficulties and decided to approach Elizabeth after looking at several potential counsellors. I felt very comfortable with Elizabeth - who listened and gently guided me around difficult topics - the significance of which became more apparent as the process developed. Elizabeth is empathetic and encouraging and over time helped me to understand myself better so that I was able to make more informed and rational decisions. My self esteem has increased enormously and I feel far better equipped to handle life's challenges. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her to anyone . Thank you Elizabeth".

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
