About me

Due to the Covid-19 situation I am sorry but currently I am not able to offer face to face counselling however I can see clients for both online and telephone sessions.

I hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling approved by ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online) which qualifies me to offer therapy remotely.

As a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist I offer one to one therapy sessions with adults and young people over the age of 18 who may be experiencing difficulties within their lives such as stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, life changes, personal and family relationship issues, bereavement, addictions or anything that they feel might be having an impact on their emotional and psychological wellbeing.

I strongly believe that all issues that people may bring are of equal importance and I feel that counselling is for anyone who feels they are in a difficult place in their lives and might have a need for some help from someone who is not involved personally and can therefore give honest and non-judgemental support.

As a psychodynamic counsellor I work with the issues that people bring with the belief that sometimes past experiences may influence present ones and these can be looked at using a reflective and interpretative process. I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment in which myself and my client can work together to look at how best to deal with their problems. I offer both short and long term counselling with an initial assessment in which I can establish my client's needs for future therapeutic work. The importance of a trusting relationship between counsellor and client is paramount in my work and provides the base from which therapy begins.

I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics and hold professional indemnity insurance.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Masters and Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from Reading University and a Diploma in Clinical Supervision.

I hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling approved by ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online) which qualifies me to offer therapy remotely.

I am a Senior Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I am included on the BACP Register for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I am a BUPA Recognised Therapist on their Mental Health and Wellbeing Network.

I am registered with Aviva Insurance to provide counselling services.

My private practice has been running since 2008.

I was the Clinical  Manager of a Counselling Service in a large Further Education College for over ten years working with young people and adults.  I have experience of working as a volunteer counsellor at a youth and adult counselling agency.

I offer individual supervision to therapists working in private practice and therapists who are employed by various organisations involving young people and adults.

I have previously worked as a group counselling supervisor at a youth counselling agency and at a centre supporting vulnerable women.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
