Lisa Clifford, Integrative Psychotherapist, UKCP (Reg)
I offer a professional and confidential service to clients and experience gained over 16 years of working with adults facing a variety of problems.
People seek therapy for different reasons, some might be looking for support following the loss of someone important in life, others will be struggling with complex long term problems or need help with managing anxiety or depression that has recently developed. Psychotherapy is also a good therapy to support you with more general goals, such as help in breaking down problems that have come all at once or working on your self-development.
My core training in Integrative Body Psychotherapy, this model of psychotherapy takes into account the way in which the body reacts to a psychological crisis. Body Psychotherapy uses a combination of talk therapy and other recognised bodywork techniques such as breathwork and movement to increase self-awareness and help process challenging feelings and emotions often associated with painful or traumatic memories. The way I work is always determined by the unique needs of the client and the sessions are tailored around the individual's personality, goals and what is the comfortable way for them to express themselves in a session.
Prior to working in the health sector I worked for a number of years in various respected media and public sector organisation. I am trained in Gestalt group therapy and I have a good understanding of the dynamics found in organisational structures. I offer group work and individual therapy to help clients confront difficult situations in their professional or personal lives.
I have a particular interest in helping people develop healthier relating styles, some clients feel their personal relationships become destructive or there is little room for expression and growth and they are in a relationship that has become a 'habit'. By exploring the way we relate to each other and early experiences of what relationships mean, for example, early childhood experiences, we can begin to gain an insight not just what relationship you have to yourself but the nature of relationships to others. In therapy we are able to use the therapeutic relationship and material that is brought up in the sessions to focus on themes that arise in encounters with people in your life and you get a chance to work through difficulties in a safe space.
When tackling problems experienced with others therapy can provide a creative and reflective space to become conscious of the dynamics of the relationships in your life and offer ways of improving them.
If after reading this introduction to my work you wish to make an appointment you will first be invited to an initial consultation to discuss and possibly identify the problems you’re facing. The consultation will give you the opportunity to meet me and decide if therapy is right for you and consider what the goals will be for your future sessions.
